The ‘Oregon Files’ is a series of science fiction novels written a group of three writers. The first two novels of the series were written by Clive Cussler and Craig Dirgo whereas the next 7 novels of the series were written by the famous author named Jack Du Brul. Another author named Boyd Morrison has also joined the series as a contributor from the 10th book of the series onwards. The title of the series is derived from the name of the ship Oregon, which is a part of the mysterious ‘Corporation’ lead by Juan Cabrillo. The name of the Oregon ship is taken from the training ship of a maritime college in New York, whose name was SS Oregon. The main books in the Oregon Files series consist of a total of 10 books published between the years 2003 and 2005. Author Jack Du Brul began writing the novels of the series, from the third novel of the series named Dark Watch. The series follows the adventurous journey of the crew members of the Oregon ship. The ship is described as a technologically advanced ship, even though it does not look so by its appearance. The leader of the ship, Juan Cabrillo runs the activities of the ship like a business, while the crew members help the CIA to break down the terrorist activities.

The owner of the high tech Oregon ship is a private organization called the Corporation. They have not given a high tech look to the ship in order to use it as a disguise. The ship is so huge that it is able to mount a total of five cranes, tow aft and three fore. Only one of each of them is operating at a time. The disguise is done in a very detailed manner in order to give it an authentic appearance, including a captain’s cabin, a fake hall for mess, several depressing paintings, and an inspirational toilet. The captain’s cabin consists of special chemicals for keeping the people away. However, in actual sense, the ship is an extraordinary vessel which is equipped with luxurious facilities and highly effective technical capabilities along with sophisticated intelligence. In the third novel of the series, the author has said that the ship is 560 feet long and weighs around 11,585 tons with a beam of 75 feet. As far as the armaments are concerned, the Oregon contains all the sophisticated missiles, M60 machine guns as well as the cruise missiles built by the Russians. The ship also contains Bofors auto-cannon, torpedo tubes and rotary cannons, all of which are controlled by a high tech Fire-control systems.

The first novel of the Oregon Files series written by author Jack Du Brul was published under the title ‘Dark Watch’. It was published by the Berkley Books publishing house in the year 2005. In the opening plot of the novel, Cabrillo and his crew are depicted as living a dangerous and comfortable life on board the Oregon ship while working for the powerful western organization named the Corporation. Soon, leader Cabrillo and his crew meet their newest clients, who came to ask for their assistance from the Far East. The client is a part of the Japanese shipping company, who is threatened for his fortunes being taken away by the brutal pirates in the oceans of the Southeast Asia. At first, Juan Cabrillo seems reluctant to provide assistance to the Japanese clients as he feels that going for attacks in the deep seas does not require high tech ship, rather smaller ships and yachts owned by the foreigners are used which are easy targets in the open ocean. As the wars are not taking place on large scales nowadays, there has been a disappearance of the commercial freighters. However, when Juan Cabrillo has a confrontation with the brutal pirates, he comes to know that the predations of the pirates are hiding an international conspiracy, which seems to be a deadly one. The conspiracy is related to slavery and a scheme that may light to many deaths. After getting the full knowledge about the plans of the enemies, leader Juan Cabrillo vows with great determination and dedication to destroy them and blow their conspiracies out of the water.

The second novel of the Oregon Files series written by the author Jack Du Brul was published in the year 2006 by the Berkley Books publishing house. The novel was titled ‘Skeleton Coast’. The plot of the continues to feature the same characters as in the first novel of the series. The novel depicts leader Juan Cabrillo and his hard working crew members on board the Oregon ship, which is a sophisticated and high tech war machine disguised as a rusty and old steamer. All the members on board the Oregon ship, work for a private western organization called as the Corporation. They have always been on one or the other missions every time of the year, but have never expressed any problems for working continuously. In the opening sequence of the novel, leader Juan Cabrillo and his crew members on the Oregon, a covert combat ship, are introduced as never being escaped from any mission in the Congo River. After a while, they intercept a boat under fire, which seemed to be defenseless and lying off the coast of Africa. The mayday signals from the burning ship are received by the crew members of the Oregon ship, after which they begin to take action in order to save the men on board the burning boat. As leader Juan Cabrillo springs into action with an undying determination, he becomes successful in saving a beautiful girl named Sloane Macintyre. After rescuing her, Cabrillo and his crew come to know that she had been in search a sub-merged ship which is supposed to old a fortune full of diamonds and priceless treasures. However, more than the story of the submerged ship with treasures, leader Juan Cabrillo is shocked to hear her story about the crazy fisherman, who says that he had been attacked by some giant metal snakes on the open sea, in the same region where the ship with diamonds had submerged. Hence, Cadrillo sets himself and the crew of the Oregon on the trail of the metal snakes in the region. His hunt leads him to a far more dangerous quarry of a deranged militant leader and his group of followers , who will not think twice before unleashing the devastating and destructive power of nature against all those of think of opposing them in their plans.
