The Outlaw Chronicles series is a wonderful series of medieval, historical fiction, and adventure novels. It is comprised of a total of 8 books and 3 novellas, which were released between the years 2009 and 2016. This series is written by a highly noteworthy British novelist named Angus Donald. Each of the books of this series follow the adventurous events in the life of the central character named Alan Dale. Author Angus has done the setting of the plots in Sherwood Forest and in different European countries, and has described them based on the background of the stories of Richard-the Lionheart and Robin Hood. The series’ stories are described from Alan Dale’s point of view.

As the series begins, Alan Dale is seen being forced out of his family and home, and labeled as an outlaw. He goes on to find shelter in a group of notorious outlaws of the Sherwood Forest. Alan Dale finds that the infamous Robin Hood is the leader of the group. He sees people living in fear of Robin Hood as he is known to be a bloodthirsty and tough warrior. As Alan is the newest member of the group, Robin Hood decides to become his mentor and teach the skills of fighting, hunting, and winning over every difficulty. In addition to Alan Dale, the other important characters mentioned by author Angus in the entire series include Richard, Father Tuck, Robin Hood, Sir Ralph Murdac, Hanno, King Philip, King John, etc.

The books were highly appreciated for their rich content and interesting set of characters. Author Angus received a wide appreciation from the critics and the readers for his dedicated efforts in developing this series. Even many of his fellow authors said words of praise for author Angus and motivated him to continue writing many more adventurous and exciting stories. Author Angus Donald is regarded as an established writer of the British nationality, who is famous for writing stories of the historical fiction genre. Author Angus was born in China in 1965. His parents were British diplomats and therefore, Angus had to move along with them wherever they went on national duty. So, he had to change residences frequently. The frequent shifting gave Angus the opportunity to live in different parts of the world. The places that he has visited and lived include Indonesia, Greece, Zaire, and Hong Kong. He went on to graduate from the Edinburgh University. However, his writing career did not start immediately after his graduation.

Initially, Angus had to work as a waiter and a fruit picker in Greece. Later, Angus got involved in anthropology and started studying witchcraft and magic in Indonesia. Subsequently, Angus even worked in the field of journalism in places like New Delhi, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. During his journalistic work, he developed an interest in writing novels and started trying his hand at writing his first story. What followed next turned him into a popular author. Over the course of his writing career, author Angus has always remained dedicated towards his work. His mind blowing novels have helped him to gain the support of a large number of fans from all across the globe. As of now, he has announced that he is planning to develop a new trilogy series whose setting will take place in Ancient Greece. He also has plans of adding a few more books to the Outlaw series.

The debut book of The Outlaw Chronicles novel series written by author Angus Donald is entitled ‘Outlaw’. It was released by the Little, Brown & Company in the year 2009. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Alan Dale comes from a poor background. Sometimes, he has to remain hungry for several days because of the abject poverty of his family. One day, Alan Dale attempts to steal beef pie in Nottingham and gets caught. He is about to get immediate punishment, but manages to run away. While Robert Odo, or Robin Hood, is holding a court in a local church, Alan Dale’s mother arrives and requests Robin Hood to take his son into his service.

After that day, Alan begins to live under the mentorship of the England’s deadliest outlaw and never gets another chance of seeing his mother. Later, Alan Dale learns that his father was a close friend of Robin Hood, which makes him get close to his mentor. Robin Hood starts giving Alan lessons about overcoming the difficulties and facing his opponents with bravery and courage. As the story proceeds further, the readers get to read about several intriguing events from the lives of Robin Hood and Alan Dale. The book was well received by the writers and reviewers alike. They labeled it as a story full of freshness, well developed characters, fast paced storyline, exciting climax, and exciting plot twists.

The second volume of this historical fiction series is called ‘Holy Warrior’. It was also published by Little Brown Group in 2010. The main characters mentioned by Angus Donald in this novel’s plot include Richard I, Alan Dale, and Robin Hood. The book describes the crusade of Ricard I of England for seizing Jerusalem from the Saracens. His army consists of the most ferocious and fearsome warrior, Robin Hood, and his trainee Alan Dale.

At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Robin Hood marches forward with the large royal army under the leadership of Richard I, and is supported by his trustworthy and loyal men. He is known to be a dangerous and daring warrior, who can outlast and outwit any enemy. But, as soon as the battle for the Holy Land begins, Robin Hood begins to feel that his reputation will be put to a great test. Robin Hood’s army consists of a traitor, who wishes to slay him before the war ends, and this thing is not known to Robin Hood initially. He not only defeats the enemies in the huge battle, but also slays the traitor with his own hands. This book too received many takers for his fast-paced story, richly imagined plot, and unforgettable characters.
