P.D. Workman
Author P. D. Workman is an award winning and USA best selling writer of books that deal with addiction, mental illness, and abuse, as well as other real life issues.

She wrote her first complete novel when she was twelve and continued writing as a hobby for quite some time. And no, none of these earlier novels have ever been published. Workman has won several literary awards from Library Services for Youth in Custody for her young adult fiction.

Workman believes that she writes for young adults because she began writing when she was young. She was a teen herself, so it was only natural for her to write about teens and topics that are important to them. Teens are right on the edge of empowerment. Moving from a subordinate role and into independence and making choices of their own. From being told what to think and do to figuring out who they are.

During her teen years, she was never into sports or dating. She was not all that concerned with fitting in. She’s always felt things very deeply, and issues like addiction and abuse affected her a lot. So it was natural for her to build her stories around the tougher issues rather than romance or the school’s social structure.

It was outside of the classroom that she developed an interest in writing and reading. She was introduced to a bunch of good books during school, and had a teacher that encouraged her interest in writing. However, she spent more hours writing and reading than she did actually attending school. Much of her time outside of the classroom was spent doing one of the two.

P. D. finds that whatever genre she writes in, the protagonist makes a bigger difference to her frame of mind than the genre itself. Mysteries and thrillers have a different structure, however it is really the characters’ that she has to switch tracks for. Reg Rawlins is adventurous and playful, while Zachary Goldman is grittier and darker and Erin Price is optimistic and light. It is always fund to return to Reg after she writes something a bit more serious.

She was born and raised in Alberta, Canada, and has one son and has been married for more than 25 years.

P. D.’s debut novel, called “Stand Alone”, was released in the year 2014. Her work is from the young adult, suspense, and mystery genres.

“Gluten-Free Murder” is the first novel in the “Auntie Clem’s Bakery” series and was released in the year 2017. Erin Price moves to Eagle Falls, a place where everybody knows everybody and everybody’s business, and she takes over the store her aunt left to her by starting up a gluten-free bakery. The grand opening’s marred by just one little thing. The death of Angela Plaint, her business rival. It seems that Angela was poisoned by one of Erin’s cupcakes, making her the prime suspect.

Equipped with her desire for the truth, some cupcakes, and her new bakery assistant Vicky’s aid, Erin goes up against Detective Terry Piper to solve this murder. Rumors of drug dealing, treasure hunting, and a missing boy swirl all around Eagle Falls. All while Erin attempts to sort out the clues from the red herrings and catch this killer before the killer’s able to take her out.

This is a very well written mystery with a main character that is incredibly relatable. It is a fun read with some great interactions between the dog, Officer Piper, and Erin. These characters are likable and the plot has some strong twists to it.

“Dairy-Free Death” is the second novel in the “Auntie Clem’s Bakery” series and was released in the year 2017. Erin believed that after Angela’s murder was solved, everything would return to normal in Bald Eagle Falls and she could be a part of the Norman Rockwell lifestyle. However, the peaceful life that she pictured remains just as elusive as her family’s past. Then her own past knocks on her door.

Between dealing with her interpersonal relationships and running the baker, Erin doesn’t have too much time to spend diving into Auntie Clem’s genealogical records, however her chances at a happy future in Bald Eagle Falls might just depend on it.

This is another tremendously written novel, with some well developed characters in it. There are multiple twists and subplots that make readers anxious to read what comes next. Workman’s plots are rather complicated yet still wholly interesting.

“Allergen-Free Assignation” is the third novel in the “Auntie Clem’s Bakery” series and was released in the year 2017. Erin Price, the gluten-free baker turned sleuth, is happy to be dabbling in a murder which this time is too cold and too old for her to even be considered a suspect.

While she starts to unearth some of Bald Eagle Falls’ buried secrets, she’s forced to face the dark history of her own family, a history that she knows very little about. There are others in this tiny town that are interested in the Price family. These are people who’re determined to finish her investigation at any cost.

Could Erin figure out just who’s behind the threats before there’s more than her family secrets end up dead and buried?

“Stirring Up Murder” is the fourth novel in the “Auntie Clem’s Bakery” series and was released in the year 2018. With Davis now behind bars and Alton Summers chased away again, everything’s back to normal in sleepy Bald Eagle Falls. Erin’s making her delicious gluten-free goods at Auntie Clem’s Bakery and things just couldn’t be better at the moment.

The only sleuthing that Erin’s doing this time around is to track down that half-sister she never knew about. However, when this sister ends up not being who she expected, and there’s another body, Erin’s got some decisions to make.

Is Erin going to stand by her sister and try to learn the truth or is she going to return to her pans and cookbooks and allow the chips to fall where they will? Was there really any doubt about that?
