Author Paula Graves has a full time day job at an ad agency in Birmingham, Alabama where she is a graphic designer as well as a copywriter, and it helps her when she has to do things like redesign her website or create promotional materials for her books.
She grew up in the state of Alabama, which is the heart of the south (in her opinion), and she has lived there ever since.
Growing up, she enjoyed reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery novels and Harlequin Romance. She knew she could get far in the writing game when she found that there were mysteries with romance; she later got a gig working for Harlequin Intrigue that has murder and romance. Graves enjoys being both a murdress and a matchmaker and gets paid for doing it. She has even self-published some of her work too; it is romantic suspense. Her need to write stories has been with her since she was young. She has written the “Cooper’s Justice” series, the “Forbidden” series, and the “Bitterwood PD” series; as well as some other series and some stand alone work.
“Canyon Creek, Wyoming” is the first novel in the “Cooper” series that was released in the year 2009. It was only supposed to be a serene vacation in the beautiful Wyoming that turned deadly when a serial killer began to target Hannah Cooper. She survives the attack, but things are far from over with this killer. When Riley Patterson decides that he will protect her, she will no longer be alone. Under his solemn exterior hid a sheriff that would not quit until he caught the killer that is going after Hannah. She is drawn in by him, not by the promise of safety, but by the danger he posed. Riley is also a mystery, almost as much as the man hunting Hannah. They are stuck on his ranch, with only the two of them to take care of each other. Only justice can free them or separate them forever.
Fans of the novel found that this novel has intricately woven plot and had a perfect blend of romance and suspense to keep things going. Hannah and Riley feel like real people, who act and feel like real people do. Readers are able to read the book in about a day. You will find yourself engaged to the story line and you will need to keep on reading to find out what happens next. This novel made them fans of Graves and will seek out other novels by her to see if they live up to this one.
“Chickasaw County Captive” is the second novel in the “Cooper” series that was released in the year 2010. Someone tries to kidnap Jefferson County District Attorney Sam Cooper’s daughter, and it makes him see red. Sam wants his daughter, Maddy, kept safe whatever it takes or cost. Even if it means he has to work with a distractingly beautiful Kristen Tandy who is a detective. Sam Cooper knows that she plans on solving the case, yet she is so distant from Maddy and him. He wonders why this is. He understands keeping things professional, but there are scars (physical and emotional) that she tries to hide from him that makes him want to make things personal. He is increasingly drawn in to her guarded vulnerability, as she offers more and more protection for his daughter. After a while, he knows the truth of the matter and he knows how desperate someone would be to keep her silent about things.
Fans of the novel found that this novel was even better than the first and there is loads of tension to it. There was subtle suspense but was gripping because of this fact. The romance was great, slow growing and sweet; with a easy flowing story that progressed at a great pace. The novel is full of well developed characters and they feel like real people. You will see the story come to life as you read it without effort and you will enjoy every moment that you are reading it. Fans loved that Graves gave them a new series to follow, in this one. She is an ace writer and this is one of the many examples of that.
“One Tough Marine” is the third novel in the “Cooper” series that was released in the year 2010. Masked men make a demand that is impossible for Abby Chandler, which makes her go to Luke Cooper (an ex-marine) for help. It has been three years since he took off after they had quite a wonderful one night stand together. It may force her to tell him that he his the father of her child. He too has been keeping painful secret from her too, and it is that leaving her is what has kept her alive all of this time. Luke knows that re-earning her trust will not be easy, even though she came to him for help. He will have a hard time keeping his hands off of her. Telling her that their attraction still exists is deadly and risky.
Fans of the novel liked the characters and everything they go through as they try to figure things out. They are flawed, just like real people are. The novel, some feel is Paula writing at the top of her game with multiple mysteries woven into each other and there was even a fast pace. The bad guys in the book, were quite intriguing too, it was unclear how Cooper would come out on top, so it made people need to keep reading to find out how things turned out. This is quite the series to follow, as it blends both romance and suspense in a great way where neither element gets in the way of the other one.
Paula Graves has won or been a finalist for or been nominated for quite a bit of awards, here I will list some that she has won. She won a Gayle Wilson Award for her novel “Murder in the Smokies” and a Daphne Award for “Chickasaw County Captive”. Four times, she has been a Cataromance Reviewer’s Choice winner for the years 2006, 2010, 2012, and 2013 for the novels “Forbidden Territory”, “Chickasaw County Captive”, “Secret Agenda”, and “The Smoky Mountain Mist”.

I enjoyed The Smokey Mountain Mist. Is there a sequel to it?
Numerous sequels, and a book that precedes it. It’s part of the Bitterwood P.D. series listed above.
