About Penn Jillette

Early and Personal Life

Penn Fraser Jillette was born on 5th March 1955 in Greenfield, in Massachusetts. His dad, Samuel Herbert Jillette, was employed at the county jail, while Valda Rudolph Jillette, his mother, was a secretary. Jillette was exposed to the Bible at a young age, and this eventually led him to become an atheist. As a result, he was asked to leave his church after he asked questions in the youth group that caused some of the other kids to become skeptics.

At eighteen, Jillette attended a show of illusionist James Randi and was fascinated by his approach to magic, which openly revealed that it was just a form of entertainment rather than a supernatural power. Jillette was very appreciative of Randi and even noted him as the person he loved the most aside from his family members. A few years after graduating high school in 1973, Jillette and his classmate Michael Moschen created an act for juggling, and Jillette enrolled in clown college at Barnum and Bailey, along with Ringling Bros.

Teller was introduced to Jillette in 1974 by Weir Chrisemer, a mutual friend. This marked the beginning of the two’s partnership and the formation of their act, Penn & Teller. In 1981, they produced a successful Off-Broadway and then Broadway show that toured nationally. This act went on to become a major success for the duo.
