Stone And A Hard Place

Stone And A Hard Place is the first book in The Alastair Chronicles series. The book introduces us to Alistair a professor of occult studies from England and has come to teach the same at Stanford University. R.L. King describes him as one who is good at teaching on his area and has one naïve friend from home, Ethan, who seems to be easily swayed by things.

Stone receives a job from one client about a house and thinking that its just the usual type moves to check it out. However, he finds out that it is infested beyond his thinking and this gives him one of the hardest tasks. The job becomes very complicated as there is a group that is self-trained in black magic and also is working towards letting the spirit out and misusing it. The group has a plan to take over Ethan as he seems the weaker one and know the plans and strategies of stone concerning the spirit invested basement.

This implies that Alastair has a hard task and will have to stand against this which also includes the mistake of Ethan. King has arranged and given her characters roles that make the book a masterpiece. This is a story that is well structured and expertly handled making it easy to read and understandable. She has excellent prose that grabs the attention of a reader plus the action, and this is even better as it comes to an end. Reading the piece is worth as you go through the events and situations described by the author for the lovers of urban fantasy.

The Forgotten

The Forgotten is the third book in The Alastair Stone Chronicles. King brings up a professor in occult studies and also who is an expert mage to handle a case about a disturbed child and a murder case as well. However, it does not go as he thinks as he happens to find out more offences on people who seemingly have no record of violence.

Stone comes across Jason Thayer who is searching for his sister and also who seems engaged in the same problems as the disturbed child. As they go over the investigations, more turn up, and they find themselves in deadly danger, a growing conspiracy and many strange, odd and homeless people. The problem is bigger as they discover that the moment they break it out, the whole world could be in danger. Alastair has to go through so much as he tries to unravel what is happening and this puts his life in total danger. Stone is described as a character that is selfless and whose main objective is ensuring that the world does not fall into a mess. Evil seems to cover everywhere as the two move on their mission as the story develops.

Another book with a great setting, well-connected events and a tight pot that makes the reader want more and more of the book. It’s a piece that will make one almost feel moving together with the characters in the different circumstances they find themselves. Her spacing is also incredible when it comes to this book though occasionally she puts up horrific scenes putting the reader concentrated on finding out what really happens.

The Threshold

The Threshold is the third in the Alastair Stone Chronicles. Things heighten as Stone is working towards eliminating the mess that is about to befall the world. Jason and stone try figuring out the source of evil and the way of getting to the cause. Their questions push them from wilds of West Virginia to Las Vegas, the dark neon wonderland.

Their main aim is stopping the evil before it corrupts and destroys the entire world. Their discoveries take them deep into finding more sinister truths about the problem that they have at hand. Verity, Jason’s sister, is also deep into the activities that the two main characters are involved in and plays a crucial role in helping them unwrap and solve the same. Stone is facing his worst nightmare as more facts come up which also motivate him to unravel and stop the dark force that threatens to destroy the entire earth. The story progresses in a brisk manner giving every detail and through this one can understand and connect all the events and the characters presented by King.

The characters have been given roles that connect so well and also making a followup for the reader easy. Despite the connection and support that the three give each other, the puzzles brought forward are very intriguing to the point that understanding and interpreting the same is almost impossible. Without plodding or over detailing, the author draws out her characters and also gives the story an excellent pace.

She is good at linking out things as the reader is first made to understand the issues at hand before she moves on to the problems at hand. Her creation is so wonderful that once you and will hook you right from the first page to the last. Realistic despicable villains, heart-pounding action, and likeable heroes make the story very interesting. It is a book that is developed in a well satisfying and compelling manner.
