Rachel J. Good
Author Rachel J. Good grew up near Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which is the setting for many of her Amish novels. She spends time with her Amish friends, attending family events, and doing chores on their farm, in order to be as authentic as possible.
Rachel loves to travel and visit various Amish communities. She has visited many different Amish auctions, markets, and mud sales questing for the best Amish soft pretzels. Due to her love of Amish food, she attempts to include recipes in her newsletters and/or books as often as she can. When she is not traveling, she spends her time with family or writing.
She is a former teacher and librarian, and completed her MA from Vermont College as she raised five kids.
Along with these Amish novels, she has written over fifty books both for kids and adults under many pen names. She also juggles her freelance editing and illustration careers.
Rachel’s brain is usually brimming with ideas. Her main problem is figuring out which ones to write first. If she gets stuck as she is writing one project, she’ll just switch to something else. She also finds that traveling, walking, and doing art helps to fill her creative well back up.
In “Change of Heart”, Lydia is the oldest sister, attempting to keep her wayward younger sister from getting into trouble during Rumschpringe. Rachel identifies with Lydia because she is the older sister and has always felt a great weight of responsibility to take care of her younger siblings.
She also finds that writer’s block is often caused by fear. Oftentimes, you will know deep down inside what you need to write, but you just don’t want to dig too deeply or worry it’s going to be much too painful.
Rachel’s debut novel, called “Change of Heart”, was released in the year 2016. Her work is from the romance and inspirational genres.
“His Unexpected Amish Twins” is the first novel in the “Unexpected Amish Blessings” series and was released in the year 2020. Micah Miller’s sister-in-law and brother get killed in a buggy accident, and he is left devastated. However he fulfills the promise that he made when their twins were born seven years prior: to raise Isaac and Abby should a tragedy like this strike. Coping with the kids’ grief as well as his own, still requires some extra support. Micah takes them to a counselor that recommends animal therapy. He is rather surprised to find this Amish farm which offers exactly that.
Hope Graber just had to find a way to save the family after her daughter’s health forced him to quit breeding horses. Providing animal therapy had proved to be the answer to her problems, thanks to the help of Logan Russell, an expert trainer. Together, they not only both pay the bills, but they make some positive changes in the kids’ lives.
Hope loves working with each of the kids, however takes a special interest in the Miller twins. She even makes Micah smile again, and he does the exact same for her. Micah emerges from his depression, and longs to make them one big happy family. However is Hope’s debt to her Englisch trainer, and their close partnership, going to stand in the way?
Readers found this to be a beautifully written and heartwarming tale of compassion, love, forgiveness, and healing with characters that are simply wonderful.
“His Pretend Amish Bride” is the second novel in the “Unexpected Amish Blessings” series and was released in the year 2020. In a tiny Amish town such as Lancaster, a solution to an indiscretion is to make a good marriage. Or possibly, fake a respectable engagement.
Priscilla Ebersol has got a fulfilling life teaching special needs kids, which ends when her boyfriend’s humiliating betrayal ruins her reputation and threatens her job. Ostracized for something that she did not do, she throws herself into a project on the benefits that camel’s milk for autism. Priscilla’s research leads her to fledgling local camel farm, where she learns much more than she ever bargained for.
When a pushy Englisch company shows some interest in handsome and shy Gabriel Kauffman’s camel farm, he struggles to get out of the rather sticky negotiation. Well-spoken and lovely Priscilla shows up at the perfect moment, and defends his business so well that she gets mistaken for his wife. It is a ruse the couple quietly continue, all as they secretly wish that it could actually be true.
Even though their bond deepens, her heart’s still wounded, and Gabe battles with his troubling secret. And once a misunderstanding comes in between them, it’ll take honesty, faith, and trust in the future in order to overcome the past and allow this partnership of theirs to blossom into something more.
“His Accidental Amish Family” is the third novel in the “Unexpected Amish Blessings” series and was released in the year 2020. In the idyllic Amish community that is Lancaster, Pennsylvania, life’s detours might just prove to be the path to real happiness.
After a buggy accident when Anna Flaud was a teen, she was told she’d never walk again. She set aside her dreams of marriage and found purpose as an assistant at a Community Care Center, because she was unwilling to be an object of pity. Now she’s got a chance to fulfill her most dearest wish, motherhood, and adopt three siblings that each have special needs. But this opportunity comes with a condition that she is unsure she can meet, and that is to find a husband.
Levi King started working at the center as penance after a careless mistake that led to a tragedy. Even though he is dealing with heartbreak of his own, he is drawn to Anna, cheering for her while she strives to regain mobility. Her generous heart, her quiet determination are both qualities to cherish in a wife. Still her plans give him pause. Levi, given his past, barely trusts himself to take care of one child, let alone three. But together, they could possibly forge a family made sturdier by everything that they have overcome.
