Rachel Smythe is a folklorist and comic artist from Wellington, New Zealand that is best known as the author of “Lore Olympus,” the internationally successful webcomic.

The thirty-something-year-old author has been working as a freelance illustrator and designer for “Lore Olympus” since 2018. However, she has been active in online spaces since 2002, when she began posting her works on all manner of platforms on the web.

What is amazing about the author is that she has managed to achieve all her massive success even though she has been suffering from anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia.

She published “Lore Olympus: Volume One” her debut in 2021. In addition to her writing, she is known to attend several comicons around the world.
Smythe often engages with her fans on Twitter and Instagram where she reposts their cosplay and artwork. She is also a huge supporter of the “Black Lives Matter” movement and regularly posts her support on the different online platforms.

When she is not writing her webcomics she loves to do coffee, skincare, snacks, manicures, folklore, cartoons, podcasts, and movies.

Rachel Smythe got her bachelor’s degree in Computer Design and Graphics from the Whangunui School of Design in 2007. She then decided to become a freelance author of comic works.

Since she started posting her artwork online in the early 2000s interest in her work fluctuated over the years until she published Lore Olympus. Smythe’s “Lore Olympus” would become her most popular work when it was published in 2018 as it would go on to attract millions of readers across the globe.
Much of the love of her work was propped by the fact that Webtoons already had a built-in audience. Moreover, the staff and people at Webtoon were very supportive when she was launching her works.

Another thing that has made Rachel Smythe very successful is that she uses many lighting styles and colors to create spectacular atmospheres. Over the years, she has also used a range of art styles as she believes establishing style should always be a constant endeavor given that she is creating dynamic art.
Smythe has said that she got into comics as she really wanted to be a director. Since she gets to pick everything that goes with her comic including the costumes, the flow, and how everything looks, she has somehow achieved her dream of becoming a director.

Rachel Smythe started writing “Lore Olympus” for fun in 2017 and launched it in 2018. She was so surprised at how much traction it got that she turned it into a full-time job, wherein she works 60 to 70 hours every week Monday to Saturday.

Smythe usually plans the story beats for “Lore Olympus” two years in advance after consulting with her editor. Once they have agreed on the storylines, all she does is write and flesh them out and then illustrate them.

In recent times, she has been outsourcing some of the inking and flats to other artists. They have been doing this to enhance her quality of life and add to the quality of the work.

Moreover, she can rest easy knowing that if things or events in life happen to her she has a team to help her out.

“Lore Olympus: Volume One” by Rachel Smythe is a modern take on the classic tale of the kidnapping of Persephone by Hades. In this spin, Persephone is a student at an Olympus university having grown up very sheltered.

Demeter, her overprotective mother had agreed to let her come to the city since she had been granted a scholarship. The Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood that have offered the scholarship have just one condition – she has to say a sacred virgin as she lives with Artemis a leading member of the organization.
On the very first night, she arrives she is taken to one of Zeus’s parties, where she meets Hades. He is smitten by the young beautiful woman who says even Aphrodite would be put to shame by her beauty.

Aphrodite goes into a rage when she hears of this and wants to teach Persephone a lesson for rivaling her and gets her drunk before imprisoning her. Hades finds her imprisoned in his car when he comes out of the party and takes her to his home for the night.

She wakes up embarrassed and confused but relaxes when Hades explains what had happened. It is not long before it is evident that Persephone is smitten with him too. They can hardly stop thinking of each other no matter how hard they try.

In Rachel Smythe’s novel “Lore Olympus: Volume Two” we get to see what the gods get up to when it gets dark. Persephone was readying herself for a new life in Olympus when she leaves the mortal realm.

But she quickly discovers that her new home has a very dark side. However, that is not the only thing she has to worry about as there has been some gossip that threatens her reputation.

The conceited Apollo has also been threatening her safety and finding her footing in the fast-moving world of Olympus is proving quite a struggle.
Hades has also been off-balance in recent times as he fights his growing feelings for the young goddess even as he still desires to continue his long rule of the Underworld.

As they grow closer, they will have to untangle some intricate webs from their present and past as they build a new future.

It is a beautiful story that drags Greek mythology to the contemporary world in a sharply romantic and perceptive graphic novel.

“Lore Olympus: Volume Three” by Rachel Smythe sees the Underworld and Olympus buzzing about Persephone the daughter of Demeter and Hades the ruler of the Underworld.

Despite the many rumors that a romance is in the offing the two still have to navigate many challenges in their path.

Persephone has been struggling to be the perfect young goddess since she arrived in Olympus and her attraction to the god of the Underworld only made things more complicated.

After her encounter with Apollo, Persephone can no longer hide the intense feelings of love and hurt that she previously worked hard to keep hidden.
While she is contemplating her future, Hades is struggling with his past and is soon falling into the easy embrace of Minthe and her toxic habits.

With all the expectations and pressure of their enemies, friends, and family both Persephone and Hades are compelled to reject their deepest desires. However, they cannot resist the magnetic and fateful pull between them.
