About Rea Frey

An American writer of mystery novels, Rea Frey is well known for her incisive and intelligently paced suspense fuelled fiction. Pushing the boundaries of the mystery genre, she really understands the form and the style, all while taking it in interesting new directions. Establishing her own approach to writing in the process, she has her own singular style that ensures she stands out from the rest. Becoming a household name for many worldwide, she’s become hugely influential in her own right, saying what it is she wants to say.

Drawing from a whole range of different authors whose books are both atmospheric and immersive, enveloping the reader in their ambiance. Reaching readers worldwide, she’s built a following far and wide, entertaining readers as they continually come back for more. She also has a strong message within her work, imparting her own values and saying something entirely profound in the process. All this while creating tense and taut narratives that are expertly interwoven with well-written leading characters and protagonists.

Her use of characters themselves is also highly believable, resonating in a manner quite unlike anything else on the literary mystery scene. Establishing an authentic and realistic tone, each personality feels wholly three-dimensional and real, as they essentially leap from the page. Using some important and powerful themes and ideas, too, she’s a hugely successful author in the way she approaches her material as well. With so much more still to come, she won’t be finishing her writing career soon either, as she continues from strength to strength.

Early and Personal Life

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States, Rea Frey was always interested in storytelling, as she would develop her craft from an early age. Constantly telling stories, she would establish her own voice, continually learning and developing herself both in style and tone. Taking ideas from her surrounding environment, she would put it all back into her work, always searching for her next big idea to inspire her.

Now also teaching writing herself, she is the founder and CEO of Writeway, which helps aspiring writers become more successful. Showing novelists how to get published, she’s now a key figure within the literary community, making an important name for herself. Currently living with her partner, she continues to write regularly and consistently while homeschooling her daughter.

Writing Career

In 2018 Rea Frey would release her first novel, which was a stand-alone mystery titled ‘Not Her Daughter,’ with it set to be adapted for the big screen. It would immediately become a hit for readers worldwide, hugely popular both critically and commercially upon its initial release. Later, she would publish her second book, which was another stand-alone mystery title called ‘Because You’re Mine,’ this time released in 2019.

Publishing her third book, ‘Until I Find You,’ in 2020, she would also go on to then publish her fourth novel, ‘Secrets of Our House,’ in 2022. Not writing any series as such, she tends to focus more on self-contained mystery stories that can be told in a single book. Maintaining a profile and presence both online and off, she continues to write and teach, which will continue for many years.

Not Her Daughter

Originally published through the ‘St. Martin’s Griffin’ publishing label, this would come out in 2018 on the 21st of August. A single stand-alone mystery, the film rights would also later be optioned for a big-screen adaptation of the novel as well. The story itself is a mystery thriller concerning a kidnapping, and it was Frey’s debut, paving the way for her literary career to follow.

Emma Townsend is a five-year-old girl who retreats into her own world of solitude, living with her oblivious father and cruel mother. That’s when Sarah Walker, a successful entrepreneur, sees her in an airport terminal and kidnaps her, believing she can provide her with a better life. Meanwhile, the girl’s mother, Amy Townsend, sets up a nationwide hunt, but she starts to question whether or not she actually wants her daughter back. Forming a bond, Emma and Sarah attempt to avoid the hunt, but they’re constantly beset by the question of Emma’s mother back home.

This book brings up many serious and hard-hitting questions, all while making sure to keep the pace constantly moving forward. It’s a very well-told story with many twists and turns, making it both a highly engaging and compelling read in equal measure. The characters are all well-drawn, and it takes the audience not only on a narrative journey but an emotional one as well.

Until I Find You

Coming out through the ‘St. Martin’s Griffin’ imprint once again, this book would first be released in 2020 on the 11th of August. Another stand-alone title, the novel is a self-contained mystery thriller about a missing child and the mother’s search for him. With numerous twists and turns, it’s a gripping story filled with suspense, making it a must for the author’s many fans and the genre as a whole. Written in a direct style that gets straight to the point, it also doesn’t waste any time telling the story Frey wants to tell.

Everything is meticulously calculated, with the world around her increasingly becoming numbers following Rebecca Grey’s degenerative eye disease diagnosis. Growing darker by the day, she awakes to hear her son’s cries from the nursery, only to discover that he’s not her son. Not believed by anyone, she sets out to prove that she’s telling the truth and her actual son has gone missing. This proves to be difficult, though, especially considering that seeing is apparently believing, as she struggles to be heard.

Another taut and finely paced thriller, there’s plenty of suspense here once more, making for an extremely effective story that doesn’t hold back. It’s an engaging novel on multiple levels, not least due to the believable characters and realistic motivations driving them. Well researched, too, the story works for its audience, showing a clear understanding of its subject matter and providing a genuine sense of fear and suspense.
