Connolly’s love for storytelling started at an early age, and she has home videos to prove it. When in Elementary, Connolly started writing down these stories, and she has never stopped. Married to the Marquess
Married to the Marquess is the second book in the Arrangements series. The book stars Derek, the Marquess of Whitlock and his wife, Katherine. Derek and Katherine hate each other so much that the only enjoyable thing in their relationship is their epic fights. Derek thinks that Katherine is his biggest problem while Katherine finds her husband worthless and irritating. Considering that Derek tries to spend every moment of his time away from home, Katherine is surprised when he comes to London after her unexpected summons. Derek surprises himself too, and nothing prepares him for the kind of surprise that awaits him.
Now that Derek is in London, Katherine needs him to stay even though her heart races every time she sees her husband’s smile. Why do two people who have been married for five years hate each other so much? Well, for starters, theirs wasn’t the usual romance story. The two were paired as kids and never took the time to know each other. Now that circumstances have forced then to spend some time together, will this couple find their way to a happily ever after? How will people who spend every second they have together bickering be in the same space for weeks?
This story is told from both Katherine and Derricks’s point of view, so it is easy to understand why they hate each other so much. After spending some time together, these two will discover just how much they have in common. It is sad that they wasted a lot of time looking at things from the surface and failed to spend their first years of marriage knowing each other. This London trip marks a new beginning for this couple. While they have to first deal with all the pelt up feelings they have built over the years; their marriage becomes bearable when both parties start to understand each other.
Despite the couple’s animosity, in the beginning, Kate is a lovable character. Derek appears harsh at first, but he quickly warms up to his wife and treats her with kindness. You will love seeing how this couple overcomes their difference and enjoys a romantic connection. This story comes with many tense moments. However, there are some good times, too, especially towards the end of the story. The arranged marriage theme gives this story quite an edge, and the author is successful in putting together a believable story with hard to forget characters. Married to the Marquess is a perfect choice for any historical fiction fan. The story is light and fluffy, and the transformation the couple witnesses in their relationship is impressive.
The Lady and the Gent
The Lady and the Gent is the first book in the London League series. The book stars Margaret Easton and Rafe Thornton. Margaret is desperate for a husband, and her parents have made it clear that only a European man will do. This is despite the fact that Margaret doesn’t want to live in England. Well, if Margaret is, to be honest with herself, there is only one man who occupies her mind, and he is nothing like what her parents want for her. There is little she knows about the man often referred to as The Gent, but given a chance, she would choose him. With just one season remaining to find a husband, can Margaret fulfill her parents’ desires before they embark on their next travel abroad?
Margaret’s parents leave her in the care of a companion tasked with finding her a husband. In her companion’s hands, Margaret is tortured, and she can’t help but wish the Gent was there with her. Margaret’s life takes an interesting twist when she finds herself in Rafe’s care. Will she go on with her search? How do you go on looking for a husband when the only man you have ever loved is right beside you?
Rafe doesn’t know Margaret that well, but he often thinks about her, and lately, the thoughts of this woman have been distracting him from his work. When the object of his fantasy stumbles into his life, Rafe’s feelings for her only intensify. Fortunately for Margaret, Rafe turns out to be more than she expected, and it is clear that their feelings are more than a mere crush. Can The Gent take care of Margaret without letting his emotions get in the way?
Gent is a likable, strong, and charming man who works to be a gentleman even in his profession. Margaret, on the other hand, is a proper lady, but she longs for adventure. Amazingly, this couple has a strong connection even before they meet. These two are a perfect mix, and they enjoy their time together. One notable moment is when Rage and Margaret spent time with the gypsies. It is exciting and fun to see how Margaret and Rafe take time to know each other. How does the story end for this lovely couple?
Adventure, wit, stolen kisses, and mystery, this book has it all and so much more. The overall story was enjoyable and entertaining, and the building suspense will keep you glued to the pages. If you like clean romance stories, you are going to love The Lady and the Gent. Rafe and Margaret are lovable characters, and their love story will leave you with a smile on your face. Take a trip down memory lane to a time when women were supposed to be married by a certain age, and courtship was nothing like you know today.
