Author Rebecca Drake was born in New York City. In twelve years, she went nine schools (including four different high schools), and she was always the new kid. Her family moved from Indiana to Ohio, right back to Indiana, then off to Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and then Pennsylvania.

Anywhere they moved, they were always close to a bookstore and a library. Books were the friend that never said goodbye and served as great companions on dusty, long U-Haul trips from one state to the next. Once all the books became unpacked, the house or apartment would be home.

She was a skilled liar, Girl Scout, a petty thief, and a card cheat. Rebecca was also a bookworm, something that has never changed. She always wrote reading down as the first thing she did for pleasure.

She loved books so much as a kid that she worked in her high school library for three years as a library aide. She came close to getting fired for spending so much time reading the books she was supposed to be shelving.

Rebecca writing in her early teens and knew when she was just fifteen that she wanted to become a novelist, although it would take some time for this dream to come true.

Being a writer is a job she loves, and views it to be a privilege. Drake may not love each and every moment, but the job is creative work and it is all hers.

Drake went to two tiny colleges before graduating from Penn State with a Journalism degree. She married and settled down in Pittsburgh, but she still has her wanderlust intact. She has traveled to places she only read about as a kid. Turkey, Cook Islands, China, and Egypt among others. She lived for a period in Qatar, which is a country she began to regard as a second home.

Drake, like many other authors, has had quite a few jobs to pay the rent: technical writer, editor, reporter, freelance copywriter, and technical writer. Besides raising her two wonderful kids, her resume includes being an adjunct instructor for Seton Hill University’s MFA in Writing Popular Fiction.

Drake’s debut novel, “Don’t Be Afraid”, was released in the year 2006. she writes mystery novels.

“Don’t Be Afraid” is the first stand alone novel, which was released in the year 2006. It is a perfect place to live, to dream, and to start a brand new life together. It is really a beautiful house. This is the perfect place for a lot of things, he believes while he puts on the gloves and reaches out for her, enjoying the sounds of her screams. Today, this is a perfect place to die.

Steerforth, Connecticut, used to be a picturesque, sleepy town in New England. Now, the picture-perfect houses and leafy streets have become menacing and shadowy, with each tiny detail suddenly suspect. Lights blazing in one house that should be empty, lost toys placed with care on back porches, closet doors that are slightly ajar, and mysterious flowers that are wrapped up in black tissue paper.

Then there are the bodies. A serial killer has turned up in Connecticut. He is watching it all, honing his skills and waiting for the best time to make them all pay for what they have all done. When he is finished, home is never going to be sweet again.

This one keeps you on your toes the entire way through. Rebecca Drake does an excellent job making you believe the killer is somebody else. The book is a very intense read with some nasty twists along the way.

“The Next Killing” is the second stand alone novel, which was released in the year 2007. For a century, the best girls have attended St. Ursula’s Preparatory Academy to achieve. To learn. To make friends and memories alike. Now, it is where they come to die. The first body is found, and the police chalk it up as an accident, one initiation ritual that went horribly wrong.

The students know that something is way wrong at St. Ursula’s. There is a figure seen between the trees, sounds in darkened corridors, and locked doors that somehow become opened. There is somebody watching and judging them, hating and killing them.

Some twisted psychopath is turning the quiet and the calm campus into a school of fear. No sins are going to go unpunished. No girl is going to escape justice. Everybody is going to have an opportunity to join a serial killer’s exclusive club.

This book is a page turner that readers could not wait to finish. It captures your interest right away and you always want to get right into the next chapter. Each of these characters is likable, and the detectives engage in banter that is superb, sometimes funny.

“The Dead Place” is the third stand alone novel, which was released in the year 2008. The first victim is discovered floating in some creek. Naked, gorgeous, and brutally garroted. Lily Slocum, a college student, had nothing to fear and everything to live for. That ended when a madman made her his obsession.

On first glance, a quiet campus town like Wickfield appears to be the ideal place for Kate Corbin to begin again after the traumatic attack she went experienced. Another girl goes missing while on her way to class, and Kate’s fear starts to resurface for real. She has every right to be afraid.

Behind this picture-perfect facade in Wickfield, there is a nightmare unfolding that will soon strike chillingly close to home. There is a serial killer out on the loose. Twisted, ruthless, and lethally smart. Locked in a desperate chase against time, her only chance of stopping this madman’s grisly game is to go deeper into a diabolical web. Here, no one is who they appear to be, and the smallest mistake might just be her last.

The book is a captivating suspense story with a fast pace, a very atmospheric setting, and some creepy characters. Drake is excellent at building suspense here, and paints a disturbing and chilling picture, all while keeping the story moving right along.
