When a niece finds that her uncle has passed away, she may come into an inheritance. She had a great relationship with him. He always used to praise the city as a place where people could find a good life and not be limited by their past.

He would always say that San Francisco was a beacon for people who needed a second chance in a life, or a third or a fourth. Her uncle used to say that there was nothing in this city that was there to hold people back. People were free to become who they wanted to be, and they could do whatever they wanted to do.

He used to be the owner of a place named the Green Vase in the city, an antique shop. It was small and he specialized in history and memorabilia of the Gold Rush. Oscar had also come into a collection of artifacts from that time in the nation’s history. It had become quite large thanks to having so many insiders and construction contacts on hand that knew to come to him with anything that they found because he’d be interested.

It was 1848 in the spring. and gold had been discovered. Ever since then the gold rush had officially started and people were coming in like crazy. The masses were looking for gold and they were packing themselves on every single ship that was making its way towards the city of gold, which was then San Francisco.

They were all hoping to make their fortune and the eagerness in the air was palpable. When the city came into sight, the sailors and the passengers would get off as quickly as they could. They would run as quickly as they could for the gold fields of the Sierra.

There would not even be anyone left behind that would be able to take the cargo out. Neither would there be anyone that could take the ships to the next place that they had to go, either. The city was really expanding quickly with more people than ever thanks to the gold.

As it got bigger on the bay and moved further through a hastily built foundation that was essentially just a landfill, a lot of the ships sank and drifted onto a sediment that was made by man that consisted of sand, hulls of ships, and general debris and trash that the residents on the shoreline did not want.

San Francisco is seeing its downtown area have more construction than ever thanks to its building boom as well. The new office buildings are all high rises and as they put their roots down further into the debris of the landfill, it’s clear that this is not the most solid ground to build upon.

Many things from the era of the gold rush that have long been discarded are now popping up and being pushed out. These relics were once discarded by the residents, thrown into that mire because it was unwanted garbage to them. Some of it definitely still is. But every once and again, something pops up that seems like it is valuable.

Could some objects have popped up that had significance throughout history? Oscar is finding that he is the first one to arrive on the scene, largely in part thanks to the contacts that he has in the construction industry. When his niece inherits his antiques store, she also gets the things that he found.

Her uncle died suddenly from what apparently was a stroke. She is doing her best to look through the store and find all of the contents and order them (as well as see what they are). She has her own doubts about the way that Oscar passed away. Could his death have been of natural causes, or was his passing due to something that happened or was related to what he dug up about a recent legend involving the Gold Rush?

Oscar had been investigating the era and looking into something big. Rebecca is starting to realize that there was quite a bit that she did not know when it came to her uncle as she may have thought that she did. When it comes to what he was doing, it appears that it must have been rather dangerous.

Could it have been enough to kill him in the end? You’re going to have to read this debut mystery novel in the series and find out for yourself what answers she finds and whether she can crack this case.

The second book in the Cats series is titled Nine Lives Last Forever. Rebecca inherited a shop that specializes in antiques from her uncle. She resides there with her two cats. Everything’s going relatively well at the moment until frogs start showing up.

Isabella and Rupert immediately chase them, but then she finds out the frogs are at city hall too. It turns out that they may be significant. Her uncle left her a note saying to follow them, but what does that even mean?

Rebecca is currently on a chase of her own with some old friends of her uncle’s on her side. Rumors of gold hidden in the city and conspiracies are in the air. What will she find? Read this book to find out!
