Rescue Alaska Series

American author Kathi Daley is very well known for her mystery and romance novels, often found combining different genres to thrilling effect. Gifted at building a real ambiance and sense of atmosphere in her work, her books are largely cozy mystery stories. Creating intriguing plot-lines is also something that she does extremely well, setting herself apart from others within her field and genre. Becoming a household name for many across the world, she’s a highly regarded both nationally and internationally. Writing numerous series, she’s built a number of different worlds, along with the various different characters that inhabit them.

A great example of this is that of her ‘Rescue Alaska’ series of novels, set in Alaska, as they follow the character of Harmony Carson living there. The books have a slight paranormal edge to them as well, with Harmony having her own supernatural gifts, whereby she can psychically ‘see’ those that are in trouble and need rescuing. This often sees her then teaming up with the local police, as she goes about helping them, while solving different mysteries.

Finding Justice

Originally brought out in 2017 on the 3rd of November, this would first be published by the author herself through Kathi Daley Books. Setting up the ‘Rescue Alaska’ series, this would be the first book to be released in the franchise, establishing both the style and the overall tone. With its own self-contained story, it provides a compelling mystery, as well as introducing readers to the world and the characters for the first time.

Working ostensibly as a cozy mystery, this gives the genre a psychic spin, taking it in a new and interesting direction. The character of Harmony Carson is well drawn, allowing readers to easily relate to her, despite her otherwise strange supernatural gift. Offering plenty of twists and turns along the way too, it continually keeps readers guessing, while constantly turning the page for more.

Given the ability of ‘seeing’ those who need rescuing, Harmony Carson lives in Rescue Alaska, which is a small-town situated within northern Alaska. Feeling their pain and fear, she lives alone in a rustic cabin, helping with rescues, while volunteering at an animal shelter and working in the nearby bar Neverland. That’s when Tim Maverick sends his friend, the famous action movie star Harley Medford, a picture of a man saying if he’s to die the man in the photo murdered him. Just two weeks later Tim is killed and Harley takes the photo to Rescue Alaska and enlists Harmony’s help after hearing about her. Will they both be able to solve the mystery? Can they find the real killer in time? What will happen as they see themselves finding justice?

Finding Answers

Once again Daley would bring this out through her own ‘Kathi Daley Books’ publishing label to much anticipation and acclaim. Released in 2018 on the 19th of May, this would be the second book in the ‘Rescue Alaska’ series, continuing with another engaging mystery. Featuring the same characters as before, it gets straight into the story, building upon both the style and the tone that came before.

As an author, Kathi Daley is always willing to take it up a level, taking the action to exciting new heights throughout. This instalment is no different, as it really pushes the concept of the series forwards in a way that is both entertaining and engaging. The character of Harmony Carson is also well developed, building upon her personality in a compelling manner that really works.

While training a search and rescue dog, both Harmony and Jake get a call about a four year old boy who has gone missing from the rented cabin of his family during their vacation. Then, during the search and rescue for the boy, they discover the body of popular member of the town, and the police are stumped as to why the would be killed. Continuing the search for the boy, they also look for the murderer, seeing whether or not the two are maybe connected. That’s when a secret is uncovered, leading to the startling truth, as they find the answers they have been seeking all along. Where did the boy disappear to? Can they discover the truth before it’s too late? What will they discover as they begin finding answers?

Finding Courage

Initially published in 2018 on the 11th of September, this would also come out through the Kathi Daley Books imprint. Knowing the series well by now Daley wastes no time in getting straight into the mystery, in what is the third book in the ‘Rescue Alaska’ series. There’s a somewhat darker tone here, but it still remains true to the original first two titles, while paving the way for the fourth, ‘Finding Christmas,’ which was also released later that year.

There’s a lot of quirky character that really keep the reader fully engaged here at all times, and the story is exciting too. There are a lot of twists and turns here that the audience will likely not see coming, as it constantly keeps them guessing every step of the way. Not only that, but the reader will really care for the characters and their plight, especially if they’ve read the previous books in the series.

Sharing a difficult memory with the killer responsible for the murder of a popular member of the well known Rescue Alaska Search and Rescue Team, Harmony finds her life flipped upside down. Dealing with her grief and fear head on, she must now track down the individual responsible for the killing and bring them to justice. Threatening the safety of her entire team and the community that she lives in, she makes it her mission to ensure that he doesn’t do it again. Up against the clock, she must now overcome the pain of her vision, and find those responsible before it’s too late. Will she be able to do it in time, though? Who is the real killer and where are they hiding? What will happen as she starts finding courage?

The Rescue Alaska Series

Setting her series apart from the rest, Kathi Daley really makes her core premise work here, taking the mystery novel in a new and interesting direction. There’s a lot of intriguing material here, as there’s not only many surprises throughout, but a lot of character development too. With more and more continuing to discover this particular series every day, it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon.
