He also wrote novels under the publishing pen name of Francis Richards, which he shared with his wife. Frances was born in 1896 and passed away in 1963.
The Lockridges are the creators of the Mr. and Mrs. North series. This murder mystery series kicked off in 1940 with the release of the first novel in the series where the readers get to meet the Norths for the first time. The second novel came out shortly after and the pair wrote countless installments in the series for years and years.
The series was also made into a television series and a 1942 movie. A made for television movie was released in 1946 of the same name.
The Norths Meet Murder is the enticing first novel in the North series by Frances and Richard Lockridge. Check out the popular debut installment in an extremely long and well received series that has stood the test of time.
Check out the main detective in this book first, Lieutenant Weigand. He works for the police department of New York City and just generally does police work. Meanwhile, the Norths live in an old house that has a top floor studio. The house has generally been left pretty empty, so Mrs. North thinks that it’s the perfect time to have a party.
It would at least serve to liven up the home and she goes up with her husband (who is of course the Mr. North) and they go to look at the top floor studio. They’re hoping that it’s not going to be too much trouble to clean out for an upcoming party, but they are in for a huge shock.
The Norths are freaked out when the minute that they open the door to the studio, they find a dead body. It’s not just any dead body but a man in the tub that had clearly been murdered. The two of them have no idea how this even happened– when would it have happened and who even had the motive to do it?
The Norths are not happy to find this body in their home and it’s going to make cleaning up for the party a lot more difficult. It doesn’t exactly set a festive mood in place. The couple has no idea who the dead person actually was in life and there’s nothing on the body to help them to identify it.
So the two just have nothing to work with and have no choice but to call the police in. Detective Weigand has been summoned to check out the death and as soon as he gets there, he starts working on the case. This guy has a way of getting information out of a scene and seeing things that no one else would customarily pick up on.
Can this detective and this married couple get the job done and figure out who is the person responsible for the corpse that they found on the top floor? You’re going to have to check out this exciting murder mystery novel for yourself in order to find out!
Murder Out of Turn is the sequel in the North series by the married writing team, the Lockridges. If you loved the first novel then you should definitely check out this second installment of the series.
The Norths are no strangers to things getting a little crazy. After all, readers saw in the first novel that they just wanted to be able to throw a party but instead found a dead body. They’re used to things not turning out exactly the way that you want them too.
Pamela and Jerry North are hoping to find some serenity and down time in a little rest and relaxation. Why not take a vacation after the craziness that they just went through? They’re hanging out a long way from New York and spending some time in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.
They just wanted to have a break from all of the madness, and instead someone’s out here trying to destroy them. The married couple have no choice but to fight back like mad men if they want to survive the battle. The only thing is, they’re playing tennis– not fighting off a killer.
The two of them do what they can and fight to the end. As a result, they are awarded the title of champions for mixed doubles. A light hearted moment of happiness and fun for a vacation that has been just what they wanted. The Norths take off from the court and keep going, intending to enjoy their break for as long as they can.
When it comes to their regular life, they aren’t anxious to get back. But will being on the tennis court be the high point of their entire vacation? This getaway might just be on the verge of getting away from them. With all of that fun being had and the glow of victory upon them, the Norths have no idea how close murder really is.
They’re not just on this retreat alone. The couple have invited their friends to come and enjoy this vacation along with them. This includes their friend Lt. Weigand, a doctor, and a former aviator. They do end up showing and all is well and good for a while. However, it’s only a matter of time before the snake comes into the garden and ruins it all.
The Lieutenant finds a woman on the pathway lying there. She’s dead, with a knife stuck into her back. When it comes to murder, can the Norths and their friends find the person who did this? They’ve got to or this vacation might really be done for good. Pick up this novel by the Lockridges to find out what happens!
