Robert Rankin is one of the well known authors of The United Kingdom who has written some of the very successful books based on the fantasy and fiction genres. He is particularly famous as a humorous novelist. Author Rankin was born on July 27, 1949, in Parsons Green, London, England. He began his writing career during the late 1970s and became a bestselling author for the first time in his career in the year 1999, after the publication of his book titled ‘Snuff Fiction’. Before achieving success with this novel, author Rankin had already written and published 18 million copies, for which he had sold around one million printed copies altogether. All the books that he has written are a mixture of fantasy, urban legends, science fiction, the occult, running gags, Steampunk, outrageous, and metafiction characters. As per the largely fictional biography given in some of the Corgi editions of his novels, author Rankin has referred to his style of writing a a Far Fetched Fiction with the hope that the bookkeepers will allow a different sections for his books.

Till now, a number of books written by author Rankin have gone on to become bestsellers. The plots of most of his books are set in Brentford, which is a small suburb located in London, where author Rankin has spent his growing years. In his novels, he has described the place to be heavily infested by alien conspiracies and ancient evils all the time. In addition to being a noteworthy novelist, Rankin once held the post of a ‘Writer in Residence’ of the Watermans Art Center of Brentford during the early 1980s. He has even organized a few regular events of poetry at the arts center. Author Rankin claims that his poetry events used to be the largest ones in all of England. Other than this, he has also done stage performances along with several bands during the time of his youth. He even has a fan club called as ‘The Order of the Golden Sprout’, which is named after the fixation of author Rankin with vegetables. This fan club maintains a website in the name of author Rankin and organize and arrange events, mostly near Brentford. In the year 2009, Rankin was made a fellow member The Society of The Victorian Steampunk, as a tribute to his dedicated contribution to the different genres of the English literature. As of today, author Rankin lives in Brighton along with his loving wife named Dr. Rachel Heywood Rankin.

During the course of the year 2012, author Rankin published the first 23 books of his writing career on Kindle with the help of his own publishing group called as the Far Fetched Books. The republication of all those books was done with new covers with delightful artworks. This helped Rankin to make his popular books available to a larger audience, in spite of the fact that many of those books were still out of print. Author Rankin says that when he embarked upon the world of writing, he had the ambition of creating a totally new genre of literature. The reason that he gave for doing this was that he will be able to avoid competition with any other author of a commonly known genre. Also, he will be able to get an entirely different section in the WH Smith for his books. On the whole, author Rankin describes himself as a teller of interesting tales, which does prove to be a fitting description for him. Throughout the course of his writing career, author Rankin has grown as a writer and has learned a lot. When he tried to experiment with the plots of his books, he found out the he could do it in a much better way. Even today, he continues to write fine novels based on the humorous science fiction backgrounds.

The Brentford series written by author Robert Rankin consists of a total of 9 books published between the years 1981 and 2009. The first book of this series is called as ‘The Antipope’, which was released by the Corgi Books in the year 1981. At the beginning of the plot of the book, it is shown that the suburb of Brentford is filled with alien entities and ancient evils, and the people are trying to figure out when did evil things begin to happen in the suburb for the first time. Author Ranking has introduced the opening plot by describing a normal day in the Brentford suburb. He says that the sun shines outside and buses run towards the Ealing Broadway. At this time, the primary character is trying to fight his battle with the dark powers within himself. He finds it everything in his life to be quite unfair. Now, he starts thinking how did it start and suspects a red eyed tramp having slimy fingers to have put wind up with something rotten to the part time barman named Nevile. Then he thinks that it could have happened when the wife Archroy swapped Morris Minor for several magic beans when he was at the rubber factory. On the other hand, the speculation takes him 450 years back when the Borgias had walked on earth for the first time. Omally and Pooley are introduced as the stars of the Flying Swan and the Brentford Laboiur Exchange. They seem to be doing nothing with it. The last Borgias named Pope Alexander VI seems to have some other ideas.

The other among the initial books in the series is titled as ‘East of Ealing’. This book was also published by the Corgi Books in the year 1984. At the start of the story, it is shown that the Romiith & Lateinos building has risen above the suburb of Brentford. Previously, the land of the building used to be a bomb site. The magnolias used to wilt in the window boxes of the jagged and the cruel shadow of the building. Due to this, it was clear that some sinister thing was going on in the east of Ealing. In the meantime, Romiith & Lateinos are trying to change the with the intention of barcode the other individuals and dispense money from them in old fashion. It appears to be a diabolical scheme which seems to have the power to end the human civilization as well as change the drinking habits in Flying Swan. In the end, everything lies with Pooley and Omally for stopping the inconveniences of the recent times, including the Apocalypse and Armageddon. Both of them turn towards Professor Slocombe and Sherlock Holmes for some help related to the matter.
