For more than seven years, Emmy and Oliver have grown next to each other. Furthermore, Emily and Oliver have also shared everything including their date of birth. One Friday afternoon, Oliver’s father arrives as expected to pick him up. Thus, no one suspects anything, because Oliver normally spends time with his father during the weekends. However, when Oliver does not report to school on Monday, Emmy begins to worry. Eventually, more than ten years pass by as Emily has no idea where Oliver went. When Oliver was only seven years, he is kidnaped, by the person that everyone least expected, his father.

At 17 years, Oliver is found in one of the apartments in New York. According to Oliver, his life has always been a rollercoaster and a fight between him, his father and the rest of the world. Oliver had been convinced that his mother had abandoned him. Confused and grief-stricken, Oliver had never tried to contact his mother. A decade later, after a serious Google search, reveals that Oliver’s mother had been searching for him for such a long time. After Oliver’s kidnapping, fear has haunted Emily and the entire community. Emmy’s parents who at one point were carefree, have now become extremely strict and curfew abiding jailers. After Oliver’s kidnapping, the entire community has been haunted. Now, Emily is now seventeen years old, and her dreams are to attend UCSD and surf. However, Emily knows that there is a high possibility that her dreams are never going to be fulfilled because her parents have already decided that Emily is going to commute to the university from home.

Instead of allowing Emily to enroll in an extremely dangerous sport like surfing, her parents have allowed her to own at least a car. Eventually, Oliver returns to their hometown and Emily is extremely shocked. Oliver was her best friend for more than seven years. However, Emily cannot help but wonder whether Oliver has completely changed and whether they can still be best friends. Despite the fact that Oliver was not abused or treated badly by his father, Emily cannot help but wonder what Oliver went through. Furthermore, Emily wonders whether Oliver would want to live with his mother considering the fact that he has traveled around the world for most of his life.

Apart from refusing to give up the search for Oliver, Oliver’s mother in some way gave up living. However, Oliver’s mother got married again and had two twins. Emily babysits the two girls each week. Despite the fact that Oliver was never found, her life still moved on.
