Roseanna White is an English author of romance, Christian and Historical Fiction novels. White became a published author in 2006 when a Stray Drop of Blood the first book in a series by the same name was published.

A Stray Drop of Blood

A Stray Drop of Blood is a beautifully woven story with rich history, romance, complex characters and deep spiritual context. The novel introduces a character by the name Abigail, a beautiful Hebrew girl living in the days of the early church. Beauty is a dangerous thing especially when one is unprotected. For over half a decade, Abigail has served as a slave in the house of Visibullis. She has a Roman master and a Hebrew mistress, and to them, she is more than a family servant until the day their son returns back home after spending years in Rome. Within a couple of months, Jason has taken Abigail to his bed turning her world upside down. Jason claims to have a deep affection for her, but Abigail does not feel the same way, but maybe with time, her feeling will develop. But how could she possibly ever open her heart to the man who ruined her?

Then during the trial of Jesus and Barabbas, Abigail is determined to make her appearance to see the criminal receive justice. Unfortunately, Barabbas receives favor from the crowd, and instead, they call for the crucifixion of her teacher, the man from Nazareth, and Jason had begun following the man many came to call the Son of God. Born free but made a slave and married against her own will, Abigail doesn’t know the taste of freedom. Despised by Rome, disowned by Israel, desired by all, Abigail has never had a taste of true love until she gets a smile from a courageous roman noble.

The first book in the series is a well-woven story that is not only full of historical details, but that also draws you into a very human drama. The characters Jason, Titus, and Abigail see the change of the world as Jesus dies and resurrects on the third day. Through their eyes, the readers can what it was like to be a Christian during the very first time in history, the same characters are also a good reflection of our current Christian community and in some way, and history seems to have changed nothing. The characters struggle with same sins that the modern Christian struggle to overcome. However, the author handles the immoral situation in this narrative uniquely and a delicate manner. At first, it appears that Jason had ruined Abigail’s future, but then the author turns the table around.

This is not your typical historical Christian romance novel, as half way through the story, everything seems to change with the crucifixion of Jesus. Through the eyes of the main character, Abigail, we feel and see what the sacrifice of Christ did for us, and a drop of his blood set her free in a way she has never been before. Before her redemption by the blood of Christ, we can see Abigail fighting emotional and physical turmoil in her life. She is being forced to bed by a young and handsome Jason Visibillus. She is torn between resentment, guilt and her desires for the man who has grown to love her. She undergoes through many trials, journeys, heartaches and also a personal encounter with the crucifixion.

The book goes deep down into sin and the consequences associated with sin. The author, White does not shy away from the darkest realities of life, but instead, she makes a comparison of the dark life with the light that Jesus shone to the world and the power of his blood in a way never seen before. The author also includes well detailed and researched theology in some parts of the novel. The romance part of the story is also good in some instances and also heartbreaking, but that shouldn’t worry because that how to love life is anyway. This is a novel for mature audiences as it discusses a number laws regarding women as laid out in the book of Leviticus, for instance dealing with the rights of women, rape, purity laws, female slaves and adultery laws.

A Soft Breath of Wind

In the second novel in A Stray Drop of Blood series by Roseanna White, we are introduced to Zipporah. She is only thirteen years of age when the spirit descends upon her thus opening her eyes to the world beyond the physical ongoing in a place that she has always called home.

Within some few hours she learns the cost of serving the Lord and forever scarred after an attack that threatened her life, she understands that her call is to use her gift of discernment in protecting the Way. She also knows that she is destined to serve the rest of her life in Tutelos where the growing Roman Church has gathered.

But it is unfortunate for her wishes that her master, the handsome and kind Benjamin Visibullis will finally see her as someone more than a sister in Christ. Then there is Samuel Asinius, the adopted son of a wealthy Roman who is like a brother to Benjamin. After the death of Samuel’s child and wife, he is eager to leave Rome with Ben to visit brethren in other parts of the globe and to ensure that the rightful owner of Tutelos receives no harm before he can marry and have an heir thus guarantee the safety of the Jews and Christians in Rome.

When their adventures take them to Jerusalem for Passover feast, the last thing he expected was to cross path with the woman who had sold him into slavery as a child- the mother he had erased from his heart. His sister Dara appears to want to learn more about him and joins them on their return trip to Italy. However, a whirlwind descends upon Tutelos, as Dara masterly is determined to undermine the Way while Zipporah is committed to protecting it, and only the soft wind of the spirit can cure their scars, with love that neither discernment nor divination could foresee.
