Three River Ranch is the first book in a series by the same name. We meet Aurora, also known as Rory, a woman who’s had a trying life for the past few months. She discovered that she was pregnant and, even worse, her boyfriend was cheating on her with his assistant and eventually left her to live with his newly found love. He even had the guts to ask Rory if the baby she was carrying was his!

Feeling lost and devastated, Rory re-evaluates her life and comes to a decision to start her life afresh. What better way to reboot one’s life than move to a new town where no one knows you? That’s precisely what Roxanne’s heroine does; she moves to a new city, carries with her a shaggy Labradoodle, and rents a guesthouse in a place known as the Three River Ranch. There she meets the property owner, Carson Granger, and has no idea that his brother also rented the guesthouse.

Aurora moves into the guesthouse and strays Carson’s plans to stay in the house and renovate the main lodge. Carson has no time for women, even worse for a pregnant one. His eyes are only set on starting a wild horse reserve and taking care of his inherited ranch. The only problem is that his father made marriage a condition for him to inherit the property. You can see where the story is headed, right?
Three River Ranch is a brilliantly written contemporary novel narrated in the third person perspective. It goes back and forth between Carson and Rory’s perspectives allowing the reader to connect with them. Rory is a beautiful and easy to connect with the character. She always thinks of the best for her unborn child despite having to face the reality of being a single parent.

On the other hand, Carson, despite being a little rough, is also sweet in his own way as well. He is constantly worrying about Rory’s in her condition. Her pregnancy doesn’t scare him off; he finds her irresistible.

The relationship between Rory and Carson builds up slows as they are both self-conscious and afraid of love and relationships. The two work on their problems and build friendships that keep yearning for more and the best in life. They are both strong and confident when it comes to what they do, but that’s just the opposite when it comes to their personal lives. But considering their past love life, it’s easy to see how it shaped them and made them vulnerable and afraid of love.

The writing is very fluid right from the first page; the characters are likeable and feel very real. In addition, the plot isn’t complicated and unfolds nicely with each flip of the page.
If you’re an animal lover, you will enjoy reading this novel as the animals play a big role in the story. The story has almost everything you’d want from a contemporary romance story. It features all the ingredients, a bruised heroine, a rough-edged hero, horses, dogs, and a rundown cottage.
Her Montana Hero
Her Montana Hero is the first book in This Old House book series by Roxanne Snopek. We meet Samara Davis, a widow who decides to return to Marietta, Montana because that was the one place she felt at home when she was young.

When she arrives at Marietta, she finds things are not as planned, marking the beginning of her struggles. She has a lot to handle, she’s a widow and has to take care of her child, and the last person she wants to set her eyes on is Logan Stafford.

On the other hand, Logan can’t seem to forget Samara, regardless of what he tries. She was once his fiancé, and the next moment she was gone, and now she is back in town; this could be her chance together.
Her Montana Hero is a pretty cute story. It is a well-written romantic story about second chances, as Sam heads back to a place where she attended school briefly as a teenager. She needs to start over after a significant loss, and the only place that helps her refresh is the town where she had good memories.

Samantha and Logan are good and likeable characters. Sam is a bit unstable, but as a reader, you’ll understand her since she is dealing with being a single mother to special needs child. She sometimes messes up but is always on her toes, doing her best. On the other hand, Logan is a good guy, patient, considerate, hardworking and easy to like. The romance between them is slow but also quick, even though it takes a bit of time for Samantha to deal with things. She is strung tight and doesn’t handle things with her child well all the time.

Overall, the first book in This Old House series is brilliantly written, spiced up with a cast with strong emotional issues. If you enjoy reading contemporary romance books that delve into broken characters, second chances and more, then this is a highly recommended series for you.
