Samantha Holt is a fantasy and contemporary novelist from Warwickshire England. As a woman married to a military man, she has lived with her husband all across the UK for nearly a decade. As a child, she grew up in Hampshire where she was inspired by the likes of Elizabeth Gaskell and Jane Austen that lived and wrote their novels a few miles from the town she called home. She has loved reading romantic literature and anything in the romance genre for as long as she can remember. Holt also loves history and thus sets many of her historical novels in historical settings to make for passionate and exciting tales. She published her first novel “The Angel’s Assassin” in 2012 and has never looked back since. She currently has more than fifty titles in the “One Knight Collection,” “Highland Fae Chronicles,” “Borderland Legacy,” “Dirty Little Secrets,” “Cynfell Brothers,” “Rogues of Redmere,” “Regency Fairy Twists,” “Bluestocking Brides,” “Spinsters Club,” “Inheritance Clause,” “Wallflower Brides,” and “Kidnap Club” alongside several single standing novels.
Samantha studied nursing in college and worked as a military wife for half a decade before she burnt out. She found balancing military life and working as a nurse difficult and so she quit to become a stay at home mother and pursue her passion for writing. Since her ex-husband was away for much of the time, she had a lot of time on her hands to write and read. It was during this time that she wrote her first work that was a fan fiction piece that got her hooked. When she separated from her husband and had to look after herself and her children, she had been writing for nearly a year and it dawned on her that she could do it full time. She was inspired to write her debut novel “The Angel’s Assassin” from reading some amazing historical romances. Holt had been reading romances since she was a teenager but never got to writing though she had a knack for it. Her passion for reading came back in full force when her children were older and she thought writing would be fun. She also finds inspiration from traveling across the United Kingdom sometimes on holiday or on purpose. For instance, Samantha set her “Rogues of Redmere” series in Cornwall, where she spent a lot of time visiting as a child.
Samantha’s debut novel “The Angel’s Assassin” is a medieval romance exploring the ideas of redemption and trust. She wanted to write a story of an antihero set in the early Norman period. It was a time when the whole country was at war and Holt opens the story with a baronial rebellion that serves as the background of the entire narrative. The historical events trigger the happenings in the lives of the lead characters Annabel and Nicholas just like they do in many of her other novels. Her works are different from many authors out there as she brings a sense of realism to the dialogue given that her native English tongue brings a feeling of authenticity. Holt has always loved writing dialogue and the fact that he visits a lot of places that make it into her works such as the castles and manors she visits make for beautiful stories. Writing her debut novel took her approximately three months putting in between 4 and 6 hours of writing every day of the week.
“Amelia and the Viscount” is the first novel of the “Bluestocking Brides” series by Samantha Holt. It is the story of Amelia, whose writing has often gotten her into trouble. Since she did not want all the trouble, she decided to write under a pseudonym but since she has a penchant for spilling everything onto the page, she soon finds herself in a hot mess. She had been persuaded by her sisters to write about Lord Nicholas Wentworth as they believed that is the only way she could get over him. Amelia takes hours writing about the man only to learn that there is a high chance of her lost writings getting into his hands. In her writings, she had admitted feelings for him when she knows full well that the man is still in love with her sister that recently got married. She needs to save herself from the embarrassment and keep her identity hidden, which means she has to intercept the letter. If that will not be possible, she will have to convince Lord Nicholas that she was writing in jest and that she is not the purveyor of scandalous stories written by the author A. Hardwick. If all fails, it could mean the ruin of the reputation of the Chadwicks.
In Samantha Holt’s “Julia and the Duke,” there is a buzz in the village as a new duke is moving in. Julia remains uninterested until she hears of how scandalous he had been while he lived in London. There is talk of pub brawls, illicit liaisons, and gambling debts which seems so unseemly for the eligible and handsome Duke of Weston. The rumor around town is that he now intends to set up a business in town that involves building a mill on a nature spot. This is an affront to Julie who loves the otters that will be made homeless by such an action. She tries to talk to him but he is so stubborn and he will not back down. But Julia is a bluestocking that will not back down and she teams up with her sister to try to find a way to make the duke find a different way to make money. The duke enjoys riling her up and is always getting under her skin even as he pretends that he is not interested in her. Despite all that is happening, she vows not to relent on her fight to protect her otters.
“Emma and the Earl” by Samantha Holt is the story Emma who finds herself getting a lot of attention from eligible bachelors in town. While she has a viscount and a duke for brothers in law, this is a new experience for the freckled bluestocking and redhead. She knows that many of the men are interested in her connections but what she needs is romance and if marriage comes along so be it. She hardly knows the man but she is determined to make the best of the situation since she believes that she is a fast learner. Maybe she could in time learn how to become a countess and a wife. Unfortunately, her husband has a few secrets that she was a not aware of that are causing a lot of issues for the country. The dule also wants them to move to the city but Emma hates the city and will do anything to ensure they do not move to London away from her friends and family. Somehow, while she is confronting her new desires and adventures from her marriage, she still has to persuade her partner that the country is better than the city.
