Sara Barnard is an author of fiction that resides in Brighton. She says that she does most of her great writing when she is riding on a train. As any great writer can surely attest, she has a great love of books and reading. She also enjoys people that enjoy reading and pretty much anything that is related to books.
She has been writing for a long time– ever since she was a child. Sara has been writing ever since she has been big enough to know how to turn on the family computer. She’s been going ever since. She gets her love of the written word and books in general from her father. She says that he always made certain that she had books to read and was the one that introduced her to second hand book stores when she was young.
Barnard is addicted to traveling and her goal is to go to every country in Europe. She has managed to get over a dozen checked off the list and traveled them all with her BFF. Even though she lives in Brighton, she has previously lived in Canada and also used to work in India. She says that she is inspired by a lot of things including people, possibilities, and happy and sad books. She hopes to write books that nourish the soul and lift the heart.
Beautiful Broken Things was her first novel. It came out in 2016 and made Sara Barnard an officially published author. It was also known by the alternate title, Fragile Like Us. This dramatic title suits a book that was written for the young adult genre and reader (although anyone is welcome to read these engaging books).
Beautiful Broken Things is the debut novel from acclaimed author of fiction Sara Barnard. Check out the debut novel that readers and critics are raving about. The main characters in this book are not one but two: Caddy and Rosie. The two are best friends and for a long time, the two girls have been joined at the hip.
They have always been different, and the differences between them have actually made them closer. They each like different things about the other, and Caddy starts to wish that she had traits that Rosie has. She is sixteen years old and now she wants to be interesting and outgoing and funny and confident, just like her best friend seems to be with little to no effort at all.
Caddy and Rosie’s friendship and lives are about to change, but they have no clue that Hurricane Suzanne is about to hit them and alter the status quo. Suzanne is totally different from either of them. Caddy and Rosie marvel at how gorgeous she is, how damaged she is, how mysterious and interesting and exciting to be around Suzanne is.
Suzanne seems to bring a new dynamic to their friendship, and almost at once, things start getting more difficult. Once their new friend’s past starts to come out, then Caddy starts to see how thrilling shaking things up can be. But she shouldn’t get too used to this chaos, because when you are on a wild ride, sometimes things can pick up speed when you least expect it and take on a life of their own.
Caddy and her best friend are about to find out what true friendship really means– and whether you can ever recover from a path once you take it. Can the girls change the course that they’re on, or are they on a speeding train that may end in a flaming trainwreck? Read this book from Sara Barnard to find out for yourself!
A Quiet Kind of Thunder is the second full-length novel of fiction from Sara Barnard. If you loved the first novel from this writer, then you are nearly guaranteed to love this full-length novel. The main character in this book is Steffi, and she is someone that identifies as a ‘selective mute’.
This means that she was not born mute, but instead chooses to pursue it. Even though she does not speak, it does not mean that Steffi has nothing to say. She has been quiet and said nothing for so long throughout her life that she has grown totally used to being nearly invisible. That’s how she feels on a regular basis.
Even though most people don’t pay any attention to her, Steffi is surprised when one person actually does pay attention to her. Rhys is someone that cannot hear but seems to be surprisingly good at listening. He’s also kind of cute. The new boy at their school is someone that she never expected to come into her life, but she is happy that he did.
Steffi knows sign language, so she is someone that is assigned to guide Rhys and help look after him. She’ll be the one making sure that he adjusts to the new school okay. Even though he is deaf, Rhys gets her more than anyone has in a long time. He doesn’t care that she doesn’t talk. They talk in their own ways and form a friendship quickly.
As they communicate more and more, Steffi and Rhys are starting to find out that they have feelings for each other. As Steffi finds her voice, she finds out that she is falling for the one person that she never expected– the new kid. Rhys makes her feel like she’s important and has a voice, and now she is someone that is starting to feel confident in her ability to use it and speak up.
This love story is so cute that you will find yourself wanting to find your own boyfriend like Rhys or girlfriend like Steffi! To find out what happens between the two of these friends and whether they stay friends or become something more, you’re going to have to pick up this second novel from acclaimed writer Sara Barnard.
If you loved this novel from this author, you can check out the rest of her books and see why this young adult genre author is so popular for yourself!
