Sara Sue Hoklotubbe is a published author of fiction.

Sara was born as a tribal citizen of the Cherokee nation. She is also the creative author of the cozy mystery series of fictional novels loved by readers– the Sadie Walela series. It has won several awards and readers seem to like it as well!

Sara Sue spent her childhood growing up on Lake Eucha’s banks. The lake is located in the northeastern part of Oklahoma. Today the author has channeled her stories from experience and has even decided to use this real life location for the primary setting of her mystery books. Her hope is that by using Lake Eucha as a setting, it will help the reader to be even more transported into the Cherokee life of modern day.

The first book to come out in the Sadie Walela series is titled “Deception On All Accounts”. Readers were first able to get their hands on a copy of this debut story in 2003. The sequel to the first would come out a few years later and is titled The American Cafe. This won the WILLA Literary Award in 2012 for being the best original soft-cover fiction book, according to Women Writing the West.

It also was the recipient of the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award in 2012 in the category of best mystery novel. That same year, The American Cafe was deemed the year’s top mystery from the Wordcraft Circle, a group of storytellers and native writers. It became a finalist but ultimately did not win in 2012 for the Oklahoma Book Awards as well as the book of the year from ForeWord in 2011.
