The British writer Sarah A. Denzil is a suspense writer hailing from Derbyshire in England, an author who has also previously gone under the name of Sarah Dalton writing Young Adult fiction and speculative fiction primarily for teenagers. Now focusing primarily suspense and mystery, she is adept at creating a tone of foreboding and intrigue, something which has managed to garner her acclaim from far and wide in a relatively short amount of time. Knowing and understanding her genres well, she has become a master of marketing, as well as being a highly gifted writer and contemporary author, as she builds her name and brand on a worldwide scale.
Early and Personal Life
Born in the Unite Kingdom Sarah A. Denzil always had a keen interest in literature and the written word, as she harnessed her passion for reading and writing from an early age. With an astute personality she was also able to see immediately what made people tick, something which allowed her to gain an insight into character and personality. Taking in inspiration from the world around her she was able to build upon her wealth of material, providing it with a grounded sense of realism, she was also able to provide it with a sense of style and tone all of her very own.
Educated to a high standard, she would focus on her writing throughout her childhood as well as her education, which allowed her to gain the tools required to take her career forwards. Learning narrative as well as character, she gained a comprehensive understanding of what made a good story not only engaging for the reader, but entertaining as well. This then allowed her to become one of the most idiosyncratic voices in the industry to date, with a clear gift at making a thriller intriguing, keeping the reader guessing until the very end.
Not just writing thrillers for adults under her own name, she’d also go under the name of Sarah Dalton, as she’d write Young Adult novels aimed at teenagers. This focus on speculative fiction aimed at a specific demographic allowed her to explore her style and her voice, branching out into previously unexplored areas of writing. Over the years she built a brand around this name, as it allowed her to explore her own writing, as she would also write for a number of different publications under this name as well.
Still writing to this very day, she continues to write from her home in Yorkshire in the United Kingdom where she happily resides with her partner. Enjoying the countryside and long walks through it, she is always on the lookout for new and exciting ideas that she can use for her next upcoming novel. With more books planned for release under her own name, this appears to be something that’s not going to be stopping anytime in the near future either.
Writing Career
Releasing her debut novel in 2016, she brought out the first book to be released under her own name which was titled ‘Saving April’; a thriller and suspense novel. This was quickly followed up with ‘The Broken Ones’ a few much months later, a book which also carried on in much the same vein as her first. Under her name of Sarah Dalton she has been writing back since 2012 when she released her first fantasy novel titled ‘The Blemished’, a novel which was to be the first in her ongoing ‘Blemished’ series of novels.
With a total of three titles out so far under her own name, she has mainly just focused on stand-alone novels focused within the suspense and thriller genre. Previously under her Sarah Dalton moniker she was known more for building science-fiction and fantasy worlds, an imaginative process which she has carried over into her latest work. Not only that, but her characters are also extremely well drawn as well, as they come to life almost, resonating with the reader on a more personal level.
Living in Yorkshire this is something that looks set to continue, as she builds acclaim for her work from far and wide, not just nationally, but internationally as well. Winning various nominations and awards, she’s not just turned the heads of the general public with her commercial success, but she’s also garnered attention from her many peers and contemporaries too. As her writing career grows from strength-to-strength it doesn’t look like she’s going to be stopping, as she will carry on into the foreseeable future.
Saving April
Originally brought out through the Kindle Press publishing outlet, this marked the first time Sarah A. Denzil published a title under her own name. First published on the 29th of March in 2016, this allowed her to establish her name through a stand-alone thriller filled with both suspense and intrigue. Keeping the reader continually guessing throughout, it works at building a structured and believable world, a process which she brought over from her time writing science-fiction and fantasy novels.
Set in isolated and suburban Yorkshire, this book takes place in a remote location, as it sees one Hannah Abbott being somewhat afraid of the world at large. Not wanting to live the house often, she finds that her only friend is an elderly neighbor named Edith, as she has plagued by anxiety and nervousness. That’s when the Mason family move in across the road from her, bringing with them a web of secrets and lies, something which Hannah hopes to save their teenage daughter April from. What is really going on with them? Can Hannah get over anxiety? Will she find herself saving April?
Silent Child
Initially brought out in 2017, this was first released on the 22nd of January to much acclaim, this being the third book from Sarah A. Denzil under her own name. Following in much the same vein as her previous books it manages to create a sense of suspense and tension that draws the reader in keeping them guessing throughout. Her understanding of character is also something to be admired, as they resonate with the reader, allowing them to build a stronger connection with them.
Back in 2006 a mother witnessed her small six year old son Aiden red coat be pulled from the river after he left school and apparently drowned, his body never to be found. Then, ten years later, he returns after she’s now pregnant again and married, as he tells her he was actually kidnapped and forced to suffer unspeakable horrors. This then leads her on a quest to find out who it was that could’ve committed such a heinous act in her small local village, and questions what she’s going to when she finds them. Will she find them? Can she track them down? What became of the now silent child?

I’ve read Silent Child, Stolen Child and Housemaid, all page-turners. I don’t think it’s fair to call them genre fiction. She’s an agent/editor’s dream, blending a first-rate literary style with commercial page-turning thrills. Housemaid is a stand-out novel, IMHO.
Love these books. Would like a complete list of her books.
