Having been born to an English mother and an Italian father, Sarah grew up in a blended culture. She has reported on her website that her mother used to work for the MI6 as a spy. Her older sister used to read books based on the romance genre due to which she also developed an interest in it and began reading and writing romance stories in her early days. Since her growing years as a teenager, Sarah had dreamed of becoming a novelist of romance novels. In the year 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, in the subject of American Studies. During her days at the Smith College, she used to indulge in reading hundreds of romance books along with her friends.

After completing her graduation, Sarah moved to the New York City and began working as a literary publicist until she went on to enroll herself in graduate school at the Harvard University. She received her Master’s degree in Education. Upon returning back to the New York City after her Master’s, Sarah wrote her first novel based on the young adult genre, after been suggested by a friend to try and write novels based on romance in the lives of the teenagers. The novel, The Season was set in Regency England and received a number of awards and nominations. It was also named in the reading list of the library association of Texas in the year 2010. After the success of her first novel, Sarah tried her hand at writing her first romance novel, which was a Regency historical book. It went on to debut on the bestseller lists of the USA Today and the New York Times. Other than being a noteworthy writer, Sarah is also a self proclaimed feminist and likes to speak on the topic of feminism and the romance genre widely. She also likes to vocally defend the literary merit of the skills required to write a romance novel. As of today, author Sarah MacLean is happily married and lives in Brooklyn, New York, along with her husband and a daughter. Apart from being busy with writing the plots of her romance and young adult novels, she is also extremely active in the social media, often discussing about her daily life and her upcoming novels. Almost all the novels written by Sarah have been translated in more than 20 foreign languages and distributed all over the world. For her excellent contribution in support of the romance novels and their female readers have allowed her to be called as ‘gracefully furious’ by the Entertainment Weekly in the year 2014.

Author Sarah MacLean has written a total of 3 successful romance novels in her writing career, one of which is ‘The Rules of Scoundrels’ series, which consists of a total of 4 books published between the years 2012 and 2014. The first novel of the series was titled as ‘A Rogue by Any Other Name’ and was published by the Avon publishing house in the year 2012. The plot of the novel is set in London, England, United Kingdom during the time of the year 1831. It revolves around the lives of the main characters Michael Lawler, Lady Penelope Marbury, and Marquess of Bourne. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, the Bourne is depicted as cast from his society about a decade ago with nothing else but his title. Now, he has become the partner of one of the most exclusive gaming hells of London and he seems to do whatever he can in order to regain his inheritance. He also seems to have turned cold and ruthless in his rage, and nurtures the evil intention of marrying the Lady Penelope Marbury in a proper and perfect ceremony. On the other hand, Lady Penelope is going through the disappointment of a broken engagement and after years of courtships, she has lost her interest in a comfortable and quiet marriage. She does not hope of something good happening in her life as she had seen a number of disappointments in her life. Now, her about to be husband Bourne seems to have the capacity of providing her with all the luxuries and unexplored pleasures of life. Even though Bourne has become the prince of the underworld in London, he promises himself to keep Penelope away from its wickedness. But, it appears to be a difficult challenge for him as the lady herself desires to be a part of the underworld and shows the willingness to wager anything that she could, even her heart.

The second novel of the series was published in the year 2013 by the Avon publishing house. It was titled ‘One Good Earl Deserves a Lover’ and featured the main characters in the form of Lady Philippa Marbury, Earl of Harlow, and Jasper Arlesey. Just like the plot of the first novel of the series, the plot of this novel too is set in London, England, United Kingdom at the time of the year 1831. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Lady Philippa is described as an odd woman who has interests in books rather than balls, science rather than a season and flora rather than fashion. She is introduced as the fourth daughter of Dolby and Needham and nearly gets engaged to Lord Castleton. Before her marriage, she desires to explore all the scandalous parts of London that she had not seen before. She very knows who to ask for the fulfillment of her wishes and calls for Cross, who is handsome, charming, tall, and is the bookkeeper of ‘The Fallen Angel’. His quick wit has made him the most coveted and notorious gaming hell of London. Philippa does her research about Cross and thinks of him as perfect for her plans. She hopes to witness without any emotion and does not think of any other than Cross to provide her with the much required experience. But, when she puts his propositions in front of Cross, he feels tempted towards her. He needs to resist his feelings for her with all that he has and give Philippa what she wants from him.
