Sarah Raughley is a fantasy and science fiction author from Southern Ontario that has made his name writing about little girls with freakish powers.
She has always been obsessed with anything to do with Japanese role playing games fantasy and science fiction TV and manga. However, she does like to say that most of her work was inspired by the works of Jane Austen.

Sarah has been nominated for Best Young Adult novel at the Aurora Awards. She is also very active in her community as she does writing workshops for adults and youths.

In addition to being a young adult fiction author she has a doctorate in English. As an academic Sarah Was a McMaster University professor and most recently was a University of Ottawa postdoctoral fellow.

She did much of her research on concerns regarding the representations of gender and race in youth culture, post colonialism and media culture.
Sarah has also edited several academic journals including “Atlantis,” “Safundi,” “Popular Music” and “Society.” She has also penned several pieces for the likes of “Zora Magazine,” “Quill & Quire” and “The Conversation.”

Raughley got started writing as a three year old writing about little girls with paranormal powers since she always wanted to have some. As such, she has been drawing comics and writing stories for years, even as she has now dialed back on the drawing.

The first book she remembers reading that made her want to become an author has to be “Sweet Valley Kids.” It was a long time ago and now she cannot remember which particular book of the series it was. Nonetheless, she read most of the titles in the middle grade version of “Sweet Valley High” series.

She so loved the adventures and always wished that she could be in them, which is what inspired her to start writing her own.

Sarah Raughley’s biggest writing influences have always been epic fantasy storytellers. Some of these include the likes 0f Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling and O.R. Melling.

She has also been inspired by the likes of “Final Fantasy,” the anime and roleplaying game that tells a grand adventure with some awesome plot and character development.

Raughley also draws from the many experiences of the strong women around her.

Like many authors, Sarah Rughley was writing for quite a while before she got published. It was only in 2008 that she decided to pen something that would get the interest of an agent. It took about six months querying agents before she got an agent in 2010 but she never managed to get a buyer for her manuscript.
Her second manuscript was a project for her debut novel “Feather Bound” that she did during nano in 2012. She wrote a bit and put the work aside for sometime and a year later, she took it up again and after three months she was done writing.

Sarah finally managed to sell the manuscript for “Feather Bound,” only for the imprint to close its doors a few months after the novel was published in 2016. It was a time of great uncertainty and she learned a lot about the industry during this time.

Still, everything worked out in the end and she has gone on to write several more titles since then.

Sarah Raughley’s novel “Fate of Flames” is set in a world where massive beasts known as Phantoms have changed the world. At the same time they started their reign of terror, the Effigies who are four girls that can control classical elements came onto the scene.

They have been responsible for protecting the world from the Phantoms since then. When one becomes deceased another one is usually pulled from the populace to continue the never ending fight.

Maia suddenly finds herself chosen to become the next Fire Effigy and she does not accept it. She has always been a reserved girl with almost no family and few friends. She is often content watching things from afar.

having the ability to control the elements and using them to protect her loved ones had never been something she imagined doing. But then a mysterious man named Saul comes onto the scene and seems to have the same power only the Efigies have had for years.

The powers and secrets that Saul has may be the biggest challenge Maia and her fellow effigies have ever had to deal with. They are going to need all hands on deck to deal with such a powerful enemy.

“Siege of Shadows” by Sarah Raughley is a compelling fantasy work that opens to the Effigies having nowhere to hide. Everywhere they can go in the world, the press will always be following them.

Things have gotten particularly bad ever since they failed to capture Saul. His abilities in controlling the vicious Phantoms has left everyone in the world panicked. He had gone missing two months earlier and no one has been able to track him down.

Everyone now wonders if the Effigies and the Sect have the capacity to protect humanity any longer. Suddenly Saul is spotted out in the Sahara desert and Maia and her friends are sent out to go after him. But when they get there all they see is a dying soldier who was designed to have Effigy-like capacities.
What is worse is that there may be more designer soldiers just like him looking to take out Effigies. Still, the biggest danger is the real Saul, who is rumored to have raised a designer army.

But for Maia and her sisters their biggest fear is the sect that had ordered a hit on Natalya the previous Fire Effigy. The world is turning against them even as they are facing enemies on all sides.

The only way they can survive is if they can trust each other in times of turmoil such as these.

Sarah Raughley’s novel “Legacy of Light” opens to a world in Chaos. Saul had struck in Oslo and managed to make it look like he was working with the Effigies. The latter’s reputation has now taken a beating and they have been classified as terrorists, hunted by everyone across the globe.

June, who is Maia’s resurrected twin, has been busy carrying out all manner of attacks all over the world with Maia being blamed. Lake and Chae Rin have gone missing while Belle has gone rogue even as the sect was torn apart and replaced by a horrifying new world order.

As for Saul, nobody has yet to determine what his ultimate plan is even as no one has heard from or seen Maia in months.

Everything does seem somehow connected and the Effigies need to put it all together if they are to save their world.
