Not just available to his students, he makes his work open to all those looking to learn more about faith, while furthering their own in the process. A member of several prestigious organizations as well, he’s a key figure within his field and area, holding a lot of sway. There’s a lot more to come still, as he continues to write and teach, and he doesn’t have any intention of finishing any time soon either.
Early and Personal Life
Born in 1957 on the 28th of October, Scott Walker Hahn was born and raised in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, in the United States. He would then go on to study at Grove City College based in Pennsylvania, where he would graduate magna cum laude in 1979 with B.A. degree. Studying philosophy, theology, and economics, this would come to be the focus for much of his professional career in the years to come.
Marrying his wife Kimberly in 1979, he would later receive his M.Div. degree summa cum laude from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Receiving this in 1982, he would receive his Ph.D. in systematic theology in May 1995 from the Marquette University, publishing his dissertation through the Yale University Press in 2009. He has had six children with his wife, and he continues to write and work to this very day, with a lot more yet to come still.
Writing Career
One of the first books that Scott Hahn would write and publish was titled ‘Rome Sweet Home,’ and that was written with his wife Kimberly Hahn back in 1993. Later, with Leon Suprenant as his editor, he would then go on to publish another non-fiction title, this time called ‘Catholic for a Reason’ in 1998. Previously a Presbyterian, he would convert to Catholicism, all the while studying the tenets of his faith closely, which came to heavily inspire his writing as time went on.
An extremely popular speaker as well as a writer, he’s given over 800 talks and counting, across both the United States and internationally. Regularly featuring on the Eternal World Television Network, he talks about his own faith and on wider biblical subjects as well. Writing numerous books, as well as editing many others too, he remains a key figure working at the forefront of his particular field.
Hail, Holy Queen
Going under the subheading of ‘The Mother of God in the Word of God,’ this non-fiction book is a stand-alone title on religion and faith. Coming out through the ‘Doubleday’ publishing imprint back in 2001, it was first released on the 17th of April, following on from the success of ‘The Lamb’s Supper’ published in 1999 just two years before. With a foreword by Kilian J. Healy, it would offer a completely fresh perspective of Mary and her role within Christianity overall.
Looking at Mary, Mother of God in a different light, this book seeks to provide a new perspective on her role within the Christian faith. Casting an eye back across history, Hahn uses numerous entertaining anecdotes and analogies to help explain Mary’s redemptive message in Christianity. Examining the mystery at the heart of the ‘Book of Revelation,’ he comes to understand the relationship between Jesus and Mary. Using the historical foundations of the scriptures, he builds upon them creating an in-depth analysis of the many themes and ideas surrounding Mary, including the many doctrines of the faith.
Helping readers to understand Marian devotion, it provides them with a full grasp of the subject showing the necessity of it in the Protestant faith. Hahn uses his own experiences and spiritual journey to take his audience down the path to better learning about the subject matter at hand. Written in an entertaining and informative style, it’s not too heavy and easily accessible, while also remaining essential for those looking to build upon their faith.
Reasons to Believe
Initially brought out through the ‘Image’ publishing house, this arrived back in 2007 on the 1st of April to a great deal of acclaim. Another stand-alone work of non-fiction, this would have the subheading of ‘How to Understand, Explain, and Defend the Catholic Faith.’ A straightforward text, it would talk about the Catholic Church and its faith and doctrines, giving readers a clearer concept of it all.
Previously an anti-Catholic clergyman and non-believer to the Catholic faith, Scott Hahn would make a conversion later in life. Examining his own journey, he provides an analysis of how he struggled himself, dealing with his own thoughts about science, revelation, and reason. Seeing who God really is, Hahn describes his personality, explaining what his plan is, and how this all fits in to the overall grand scheme. Laying out God’s purpose, Hahn offers an examination showing the ten keys to the kingdom and how the Church itself is evident from the Scriptures.
Looking clearly at his own misconceptions as he saw them about the Church, Scott Hahn seeks to help others dealing with the same issues. Offering guidance for readers in their own lives, he writes articulately and intelligently on what it all means, and how the audience can apply it themselves. As a Catholic Church introduction it works on every level, delivering both a technical and spiritual understanding of the faith as a whole.
