Scott Mariani is a popular author best known for writing his series of books on ex-SAS hero Ben Hope. He has had tremendous success throughout his career with most of his novels topping the best seller charts in his native home of Britain.

His books are written in English and have also been translated into more than twenty of the world’s languages. Mariani’s Ben Hope series has been described as “James Bond meets Jason Bourne with a historical twist.”

Mariani has a great passion for history which has been reflected in the mysteries that form the background of his modern day adventures of hard-driving, ex-soldier Ben Hope. Scott depicted Ben Hope as someone who is constantly touring the world in order to protect and rescue the innocent. His goal is always the same, to make the bad people pay for their crimes and face justice.

Mariani discovered the character of Ben Hope when he was out walking one day in the Welsh country side near his home. Scott wanted to develop a character that had all the accessories and virtues of the traditional action-adventure hero, but he wanted them to be a unique character and a little bit deeper than other characters in the genre. Hope has all the training and exceptional abilities, but he is an imperfect guy who goes through the same ups and downs that everyone does and is someone that anyone can empathize with.

Scott Mariani was born and raised in Scotland. He stayed in the area until he went on to study and live in Oxford. He would later move to Wales which is where the idea for the first Ben Hope novel came to him. That novel became The Alchemist’s Secret and the success of that book quickly led to him becoming a full time author.

There were many London literary agents that didn’t see much in his book and it was hard for him to find a publisher in the UK. He ended up self-publishing and his first novel had some tremendous success. The book went on to spend six successive weeks as the number one book on the Kindle bestsellers chart. The Lost Relic would later become one of the top fifty eBooks published in 2011. The follow-up, The Sacred Sword, would become among the top ten paperbacks on the Sunday Times chart.

Besides authoring books, Scott also has a passion in shooting photography, archery, and astronomy. He considers himself to be a nature lover and a strong activist of conservation, supporting charities like The Woodland Trust and The World Life fund. According to most readers, Scott is an author who has a unique way of captivating the heart of his readers.

The first book in the Ben Hope series is called The Alchemist’s Secret. The Alchemist’s Secret introduces our hero, Ben, as a former elite SAS soldier. He is highly skilled, but tortured by catastrophe from his past. He’s put that life behind him as best he could and now devotes his entire life to rescuing kidnapped children. However, when Ben is recruited to locate an old manuscript that could help in saving the life of dying child. He is inspired to change his mind and ends up embarking on the deadliest quest for his life.

The manuscript is reported to have contained the formula for the elixir of life, invented by the brilliant alchemist Fulcanelli decades ago. It was later discovered that other people were also hunting for this precious treasure, but it seems that almost everyone, from the Nazis of the past to the modern Shadowy organization known as Gladius Domini, is determined to discover the secrets of immorality.

He’ll end up teaming up with a good-looking American scientist, Dr. Roberto Ryder. Ben is directed on a dangerous trail from Paris to the Cather strongholds of the Languedoc, where an astounding secret has been hidden for many years.

Scott Mariana brought all that and more to the table in this fast-moving, suspenseful story that rockets off from page one with no signs of slowing down. The Alchemist’s Secret comes with a dark intrigue, sexual tension, and unending attack from spiteful villains who are determined to stop the former SAS hero from finding the secret to a prehistoric manuscript.

The second novel in the Ben Hope series is known as The Mozart Conspiracy. The story is majorly based on the quest by Ben Hero to try and unearth the person who really killed Amadeus Wolfgang Mozart in 1790s Vienna. Was Wolfgang poisoned by an envious competitor? Could he have been murdered because he defied the Freemason’s code of keeping mouth shut? Or was a shadowy ancient order involved in Wolfgang’s death? There is also the peculiar and atrocious death of a piano player named Oliver Llewellyn that took place two centuries later and is somehow connected to this whole thing.

These are the mysteries facing the ex-SAS soldier Ben Hope in his quest to unravel the murderers of his best pal, Oliver. In the middle of the mystery, there is an old letter that was rediscovered after many years which may or may not have been written by Amadeus himself.

From the city of Oxford to Ravenna, Vienna, Venice, and the snow capped mountains of Slovenia; Hope and his old flame, the world’s popular opera singer Leigh Llewellyn, must move with a haste across Europe to unravel the mystery. To solve the case, they will need to stay a notch above the determined group of killers who are out to erase the trail of The Mozart Conspiracy.

The Mozart Conspiracy is an action-packed, suspenseful story that introduces a fine new hero in former British Commando, Ben Hope. He is a very human character who is tormented with a lot of regrets. In a race across Europe, Ben must rely on his talents to track down a despicable cabal that secretly controls the destiny of the world.

Just reading The Cage and start remembering a detective in Oxford where Ben Hope went to rescue his son who was accused of murdering his tenant but don’t know what book it was. Or could be wrong.
