His family, consisting of his older sisters, Wendy and Jackie, his mother, Pamela, father, Lloyd and himself, ended up having to move to Connecticut and California, when he was a child. These occasions on which his family had to move was because of his Father’s job. The senior Mr. Westerfeld was a computer programmer. During his schooling years Scott Westerfeld was afforded the very best education. On his journey to emerge as a writer Scott Westerfeld attended Arts Magnet High School, Dallas, Texas. Following, he continued on to Vassar Philosophy BA in 1985. Then, finally, he entered into New York University. At the New York University he occupied himself with graduate work in performance Studies 1987-2456.

His Professional Life

Dick Award is the award that is given, specifically, to authors of science fiction books. Some of the most remarkable work that he has done includes The Mid-nighters, Peeps, So Yesterday, Fine Prey, among a plethora of others. The books that are known to be primarily responsible for his fame and the respect that he has gained as a science fiction book writer are The Peeps, The Uglies series and The Mid-nighters. These three very well written books are immaculate productions that reflect the quality of Scott Westerfeld’s writing, along with depth of his ability to captivate his readers with the written word.

Scott Westerfeld decided to write the 3rd book of the Uglies series due an enlightening and inspiring, scenario within which he had once found himself. He was at a book signing, one day, when a young child came up to him and asked him if he lived in a big mansion with butlers and things of the sort. It was then, in that moment, that it had dawned on him that, in life, it is not simply physical appearances that people are eventually develop an obsession with. In fact, he realized that people also get the bug for being famous and having a lot of material things. He noticed that people often believe that they need to be in possession of these things, in order to be happy. This fuelled him to compile a succession of books, and it was then that Scott Westerfeld decided to write The Specials, the 3rd book of the series The Uglies. He also wrote Leviathan, which is the first book of the series. Then, following that book came Behemoth.

His Personal Life

In the life of a Texas born Aussie, there are many things that you may find interesting. A few of those things that can be interesting about Scott Westerfeld is that the occupation of his mother and father was “computer programmer”. Scott Westerfeld’s upbringing, in such an environment can be considered to be rather “futuristic”. This is due to the fact that his parents were computer programmers before the time within which computers had become such a household item. Therefore, Scott Westerfeld was always kind of on the middle of futuristic times and things, which may have given him the idea of writing his books in the future. Some of the people who had been some sort of a motivation for Scott Westerfeld, as an author include: lain Banks, Joanna Russ, Nicola Griffith, and Samuel R. Delany. Scott Westerfeld married Justine Larbalestier in the year of 2001. As a result of their, both, very busy and travel indulgent lifestyle, they do not have any children or pets.

Scott Westerfeld’s passions are reading and writing. However, as a high school student he never really liked books very much. In fact, the only reason that the young Scott Westerfeld even started to read a lot was because of “accelerated reader points” that were offered in his school. Many find this to be quite unbelievable. Scott Westerfeld, after discovering his talent for writing, never lost his creative spirit, neither did he limit it to a specific type of writing, as he, also, wrote music for artsy downtown New York dancers. Scott Westerfeld favours the vegetarian lifestyle, which some may find strange, due to the fact that he loves Mexican food. He has, also studied Japanese, Spanish, as well as Latin.

Often times, he moves between the hemispheres, in order to avoid the winter seasons. Apparently, he is not a lover of jeans. As a man who enjoys sports, Scott Westerfeld likes basketball, tennis and cricket. Some may argue that his love for cricket may be an adaptation to his Australian side, as cricket is a game that is considered to be an Australian favorite. Bear in mind, though, that Scott Westerfeld was not always a writer. Before he seriously embarked on the journey that made him into one of the very best writers of science fiction books, Scott Westerfeld did many other jobs. He was a factory-worker making lead-dolls, a substitute teacher, a textbook editor, a software designer, as well as a ghost writer. A Ghost-writer is someone who writes material such as professional books, articles, reports and stories for the people who have the idea, but not the skill or even the time. It was these vast and varied skills that allowed Scott to draw from his own personal life experience in his future works- a quality that is well-noted in some of his most famous pieces. Whatever the future holds for him, whether it be more writing or another direction completely, Westerfeld is sure to excel in all that he does in life.
