Sean Fletcher is an urban fantasy and young adult author from the arid and broiling state of Texas. He is best known as the author of the “Depths of Darkness” and the “I Am Phantom”series of novels. Fletcher has been a creative writing tutor at the Pacific Northwest Writers Association conference, writing workshops, libraries and writing groups. While he writes fantasy and science fiction, what he loves doing the most is telling stories to young readers even though the stories tend to have a certain depth. This then means that these works can also be enjoyed by adults. He is also the author of contemporary stories and aso dabbles in short stories and horror. Fletcher got inspired to write by his parents when he was just a lad. He always had an overactive imagination and as a fifteen year old decided that he did not want to only daydream as he could write stories. He wrote his debut novel “I Am Phantom” in 2015 and has never looked back since.

Sean Fletcher is fortunate enough to be a developmental editor as well as author. He loves his day job just as much as he loves writing his fiction. Since 2015, he has worked with Andrea Hurst and Associates, where he has edited and helped many authors get their novels published. He has also been a co-agent for many authors over the years in addition to teaching writing classes. Some of the writing workshops and conferences where he has taught include the likes of Dallas Writers’ Workshop, PNWA, and Romance Writers of America. He is also a regular contributor to “Writers’ Digest.” While he has a hectic work schedule, he has said that it is much better than some of the other jobs he held over the years. Before he became an editor and author he used to work cleaning cat and dog vomit at a veterinary clinic among other things. He had previously earned a wildlife biology degree and started pursuing veterinary medicine which he once believed was his destiny. Once he published his debut novel, he never looked back and now has more than fifteen novels to his name.

As for his routine, Fletcher has said that he does not have any particular routine given that he moves and travels a lot. He also likes to change his writing locations as he finds his inspiration that way. He has written in pretty much every bookstore, library and coffee shop within a hundred mile radius of his neighborhood. Given that he is also a backpacker, he has written on the banks of rivers, tops of mountains and in forests. He believes he has it so easy since he writes most of his first drafts by hand and hence he can go almost anywhere without having to worry about battery life. The only thing he can maybe worry about is the notebook tumbling into a river or getting soaked in a rainstorm. The closest thing Sean Fletcher has to a routine is that he loves to write when he is fresh, which is usually early in the morning. As an early riser, he usually hikes or bikes to get his brain awake and his blood moving then uses that energy to edit/write. Sean spends most of his days working the day job while the nights are spent typing what he had written into his computer or marketing what has already been published.

“Mage’s Apprentice” by Sean Fletcher is the first of the “Mages of New York” series of novels. The lead is a normal human with no supernatural powers which could very easily result in her death in a New York City full of magic. Given that she does not have any supernatural powers, she depends on her thieving skills to earn a living and survive. She never planned on getting caught but Lucien Dunadine who is one of the most powerful of New York Mages found her stealing from him. She never thought she would one day be blackmailed into becoming a mage’s apprentice, but that is what is happening. But the Mage Council wants Lucien to come up with the best candidate to fill the latest vacant slot for a mage. They both have no choice but to acquiesce. But there is something very bizarre going on in the streets as the supernaturals are mysteriously turning up dead, robbed of their magic. If Aspen’s aggravating and handsome opponent does not get to her first, maybe they could find out who is responsible for the killings.

“Mage’s Trial” the second novel of the “Mages of New York” series sees Aspen serving as the newest Mage on the New York City Council of Mages. But Isak has gone missing and it is up to Aspen to find him but since she feels that she was responsible for the death of Mage Xacier his evil master, she has been dragging her feet. As a child, Isak had been her protector and friend since she was human in a dangerous world ruled by supernatural beings. But they had both broken their promises as he had deserted while she had broken her promise to always be there for him. She has also been informed that he had been involved in the death of her parents and she feels she can no longer be around the man let alone trust him. The whole world is now in danger due to what Xavier did as he opened holes in the defenses around the city. Three foreign kings have taken action and are now planning to invade. If they succeed, Maladias an evil man will have an easy time takng over both the human and magical worlds. But Aspen grew up knowing that she is a Null though she has been working with Xavier to carry out secret experiments. Other magical beings deem her a False Mage but she has no time to reply to insults as she has been charged with resolving petty border disputes among the many magical sects.

“Mages End” the last of the “Mages of New York” series of novels by Sean Fletcher brings to an end the trilogy. Lucien who has been Aspen’s mentor for the longest time is looking short on resolve and strength. Maladias has made a comeback wearing Mage Xavier’s body but without full powers. But still he has enough power that he has destroyed most of the Mage Councils across Europe and many of the apprentices that were yet to become full mages. In the meantime, all of the supernatural beings from the different regions of the world are fighting for supremacy and for land without a care for the attacks against their world. They always had reservations on how their districts were ruled and they are reluctant to help the Mages defeat Maladias as they believe anything is better than Mage rule. They believe Maladias will leave them alone if they do not fight his rule. Aspen cannot overcome Maladias on her own and needs allies and if the supernaturals do not come to her side, all will be lost.
