Cutter knows that they can’t track him and that they won’t know his plan until he hits them with it.

There were programmed not to defy their owners or else they would be shutdown, and they could never harm a human. However, that is not how it turned out at the Lexington estate. The robots clumsiness has him set for deactivation and the robots must do as they are told. Unless they choose not to.

The Chamber Therapy program promises criminal rehabilitation, but it can lead to total failure known as Pattern Black — the total disintegration of identity that drives the prisoner insane. Nobody knows what happens to prisoners after they go Pattern Black as it is kept a secret by Revival, the corporation that runs the prison. However, nine of the abductees have not returned and there is seemingly no connection between them. Benjamin Bannister has dedicated his life to finding the connections between the wonders of the world, from Stonehenge to the pyramids of Egypt. He believes that aliens have been to Earth before and left footprints in the historical record. Many people thought he was a fool for this, but now he feels vindicated. His research leads him to Vail, Colorado and Meyer Dempsey’s ranch as he seeks to find the answer of what makes the Missing Nine so special.
