Sean Williams
Sean Williams was born in Whyalla, Australia May 23, 1967, and is a New York Times bestselling author for adults.
Sean has dreamed often about stepping into booth in order to go somewhere else, instantly. This has led to him having a fascination with the psychological, social, and the moral implications of having such technology. When he is not pondering such heavy thoughts, Sean can usually be found eating chocolate. Although, he will eat chocolate when he is pondering these matters too.
While at Pulteney Grammar School, he studied music and sciences and matriculated third in his year 1984, and topped the state for Musical composition. The same year, he won the Young Composer’s a theme and three variations for string quartet with trumpet, flute, and oboe soloists that was called “Release of Anger”.
After that, he went to Adelaide University and studied a Bachelor of Economics and wrote for On Dit, the student newspaper. He completed a Master of Arts in the field of Creative Writing at Adelaide University in the year 2005, and he was a PhD candidate at the same institution in the year 2010.
Sean writes young adult fantasy, children’s fiction, fantasy, and science fiction. His debut novel, called “Metal Fatigue”, was released in the year 1996. His work has received multiple Aurealis and Ditmar Awards.
Williams has also tutored for the Clarion South Workshop, once won the Writers of the Future contest, and judges the contest.
“Metal Fatigue” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 1996. The American city of Kennedy, in a dystopic world after a nuclear war, has walled itself off from the decline of what was the USA. Kennedy, determined to continue functioning like a metropolis, strictly patrols all of its boundaries and struggles in its efforts to maintain the semblance of a modern city.
Now, forty years after the war’s end, Kennedy is in crisis mode. Technologies fail and repairs and replacements are not forthcoming. It is in this social and technological stagnation that the news of a Re-United States of America comes out, and it is RUSA that would like Kennedy to rejoin. No everyone living in Kennedy agrees with the re-assimilation, and a series of data thefts and political assassinations starts.
While the deadline for the reunification gets near, Phil Roads, who is the investigator that got assigned to solve the robberies and killings, is getting under increasing amounts of pressure. Caught between two murderous opposing forces, as well as having some dangerous secrets coming to light from his past, both his career and his own life are on the line.
“Twinmaker” is the first novel in the “Twinmaker” series and was released in the year 2013. You can be improved.
Is it really possible to change your body just by carrying around some coded note? Sure, the advanced technology of the d-mat booth is going to transfer you anywhere you want instantly, but is it possible to make you more beautiful, taller, and stronger? Clair is almost certain the offer is much too good to be true. Libby, her best friend, is determined to give it try, however, longing for an improved and new version of herself.
What begins as Libby’s dream becomes Clair’s nightmare after Libby falls foul of a lethal trap. With the help of the school freak, Jess, and the powerful yet mysterious stranger known only as Q, Clair’s attempt to keep Libby safe leads her to the unimagined world of cover-ups and conspiracies. Quickly her own life is put at risk, and Clair gets chased across the entire world in the desperate race against the clock.
“Crashland” is the second novel in the “Twinmaker” series and was released in the year 2014. Where has Q gone?
Jesse and Clair have just barely been reunited when the world gets plunged into the biggest crisis it has seen since the Water Wars. The d-mat network has been broken. The world has ground to a screeching halt. People have gotten trapped, been injured, and are dying. It is the end of the world as Clair has known it, and she is partly responsible.
The female that killed d-mat is tasked with tracking down her missing buddy Q, the rogue AI that saved Clair’s life multiple times. Q is the key to fixing the system, but she doesn’t respond to calls for assistance, and if she did, could she be trusted?
Abandoned by all of her friends, targeted by dupes, caught in the web of lies that hit at the very essence of the person she is, Clair finds some powerful allies in RADICAL. These are the secretive activists that are the polar opposites of the anti-d-mat group known as WHOLE. Although, if she helps them locate Q, is she inadvertently trapping her buddy in a life of servitude? Or, even worse, sending her to an early grave due to erasure? Caught between the anti- and pro-d-mat philosophies, and in a world that is close to all out war, Clair has to figure out where she stands, as well as who she will stand with at the very end.
“Hollowgirl” is the third novel in the “Twinmaker” series and was released in the year 2015. Clair’s world has been ruined once more. The last hope of saving her friends is for both her and Q to get into the Yard, which is the digital world of Ant Wallace’s creation. The rules there are the exact same as those in the real world: Fire and water are real, so is death. In the Yard there are actually two Clair Hills, and their very existence makes cracks that widen more and more.
Getting in is the simple part of the operation. Once she is there, she must earn the trust of her best friend and the girl that started it all, Libby. Together, they will have to fight their way through the political and digital minefield in the hopes of saving the world once and for all. This time Clair must get it right or she will lose everything.
