Shanora Williams published her first novel “Sacred Angels” in 2012 when she was barely out of high school. It was at a time when she was expected to be bogged down by college or young adulthood in general but she had stories in her that needed to get out. It was less than two years after graduating school when she published her debut though she asserts that she had been writing all her life and believed it was something that she had always wanted to do. She was only seventeen years old when she started writing and she found it tough to get the breakthrough she needed. Williams got a lot of discouragement from people who thought she was just a kid who had no business writing. But she was determined to make a career out of writing and would never give up. She published her first novel when she was only 18 years old and by the time she was nineteen she was a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author. Shanora is more proud of the fact that she was one of the youngest African American authors to make the most prestigious lists. It was also quite an achievement to be such an accomplished author without going through the usual routes of co-authorship or being included in an anthology.
Once she published her first novel she became prolific and by the end of 2013 had written the bestselling “Hard to Resist” series. It was one of her most successful series as it sold more than 10,000 copies in its first week and has gone on to sell more than 35,000 copies since. The novel went on to become a New York Times and USA Today bestselling title and encouraged her to churn out even more novels. She eventually went back to college to fulfill her requirements for her degree in Creative Writing even as she still wrote her novels.
Shanora Williams’s first novel in the Hard to Resist series is about Natalie Carmichael a woman that believed she had found the man who would complete her in Bryson Daniels. She had cherished him for several years, and planned a bright future with him and was very happy with how things were going until everything changed on graduation night. She walked in on the love of her life in bed with another woman. After dealing with her grief for a month, she decides to go to Florida to have some fun and escape from all the pain. She thinks that having fun and staring over will help her to mend her broken heart. She has vowed to be single until she is completely healed until Nolan Young throws a wrench into her single life plans. She does everything she can to stay away from Nolan and his hot kisses but nothing works as he is so determined to make her his own. But she does not know if the man can accept her if she knew how much baggage from the past she comes with. Natalie is also wary of letting in someone into her life as she has been scarred before and barely knows Nolan. But can she resist her desires and start something new which is what her heart wants to do?
Shanora Williams’s “Hard to Hold On” continues the story of Natalie and Nolan who met in the first novel of the series. Given her problems with Bryson, they come to an understanding that communication is important if their relationship is to survive. Meanwhile, Nolan is back in California where he has gone to take care of his mother who is suffering from lung cancer. Four months after Nolan left, the distance between them has not dampened their feelings for each other. But things start going wrong when Nolan’s mother dies in surgery and he is left devastated. His brother is spiraling out of control and Nolan is now sinking into depression which he was just recovering from after the death of his father. Natalie who has never had to experience the death of a close family member is at a loss at how to comfort Nolan. She flies down to stand with him but Nolan has shut down. She cannot get him to open up and let her comfort him as he pushes her away and questions everything including life and even their love. He says he needs a break but Natalie is devastated as it brings back memories of her breakup with Bryson. Their communication is deteriorating even as Nolan is increasingly gravitating towards an ex who is aggressively coming back into his life. But Natalie has also met a classmate who is interested in making her enjoy life and get back her smile. Both of them are hurt and stubborn but they are now facing one of their biggest obstacles and if they do not act fast all will be lost.
