Shawn McGuire was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in Winona, Minnesota, which is a beautiful Mississippi River town. After she graduated college, she moved to the Milwaukee area in Wisconsin, where she lived for over twenty years.

She enjoys places and characters that her fans want to go back to again and again. And she has even lost track of all the times that her readers have told her they wished they could just move to Whispering Pines, which Shawn does too. She picks subjects for mysteries that she is curious about. Not only does this make research that much more fun, it satisfies her desire to be learning something at all times.

When she is not busy writing, she loves to go on long motorcycle rides with her husband and to travel. She is a homebody, however so she fills her days with hiking, doing yoga, reading, watching British television mysteries, reading, and nibbling on really dark chocolate.

Shawn began writing when she saw the first Star Wars movie when she was a kid. She eagerly anticipated the next installment to come out so much so that she wrote her own. Sadly, these notebooks have become lost to time, however her desire to spin a story is just as strong now as it was then.

Her first job at the age of thirteen was cleaning up her father’s offices. Writing has always been a passion of hers in the time since, however she had never thought it could be a career until later in her life. To this day, she still wonders about how she thought all of these books got on the shelves at bookstores and libraries. Until she figured this out, she worked at a department store, a pizza parlor, as a receptionist, payroll manager, fast food manager, and fabric store manager. Best job she has ever had, besides being an author, is being a stay-at-home mother to her two sons, a job she had for eighteen years.

Shawn graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, with a degree in Business and English.

Shawn’s debut novel, called “Sticks and Stones”, was released in the year 2014. She writes the “Whispering Pines Mystery” series, the “Gemi Kittredge” series, the “Wish Makers” series, and the “Lei Crime Universe”, among others.

“Family Secrets” is the first novel in the “Whispering Pines Mystery” series and was released in the year 2017. Welcome to a place for those that do not belong, Whispering Pines, Wisconsin. Sixteen years after the family feud that drove her out of the cozy Northwoods village of Whispering Pines, ex-detective Jayne O’Shea goes back to get her grandparents’ lake house ready for sale. Once she is there, not only does she discover the house is trashed, but her dog also finds a dead body in the backyard.

Jayne only intends to keep out of it, however it becomes obvious that the sheriff has no interest in investigating this death, Jayne cannot stop herself. Her suspect list grows quicker than the plants in the commons’ pentacle. Could it have been the local Wiccan green witch with her cache of lethal plants? The visitor that is determined to practice black magic? Or was it the shopkeeper that slips into trances and talks of death?

All Jayne knows for certain is that the closer she gets to solving the crime, the more that the sheriff just wants her to back off. And when one local fortune teller provides a vital clue, Jayne knows that it is up to her to solve this case.

The novel has some twists and turns that are sure to keep you reading well into the night. Whispering Pines is one village that you would either like to visit or live in.

“Kept Secrets” is the second novel in the “Whispering Pines Mystery” series and was released in the year 2017. Whispering Pines, Wisconsin, tucked next to a pristine lake and is a part-Renaissance Faire, part-Medieval Europe hamlet is utopia. Except, of course, for the recent murders.

Just a month after showing up in the Northwoods, Jayne O’Shea, an ex-detective has settled down comfortably into small-town life and has made some good progress with her task of getting her grandparents’ home ready to sale. Then the stunning death of one of the carnies rocks this community, and the villagers look to Jayne for some help, placing her in the impossible middle area of not wanting to get involved and needing to make sure that justice gets served.

When a second carney winds up dead, and the newly hired sheriff, who is much more concerned with just ticketing the tourists than actually catching the killer, only dismisses this death as being an accident. Jayne’s got no choice but to step in. Will she be able to uncover the truth before this killer he strikes once more?

Shawn is able to intertwine a murder mystery and Wicca into absolutely incredible tale about a very small town. Some believed they had figured out who the killer was only to be proven wrong. The book is a cool mixture of realistic, interesting characters and some surprising folks with some amazing talents.

“Original Secrets” is the third novel in the “Whispering Pines Mystery” series and was released in the year 2017. Whispering Pines was once a safe haven for outsiders, however after three deaths in just two months, it has become a hotbed for murder.

Jayne, who is exhausted while she tries to open a bed-and-breakfast and being the only law enforcement on duty, welcomes the escape that she finds in her grandma’s journals. Every entry gives her a deeper comprehension of why her grandparents would move to such a secluded spot many years prior. However while questions are answered, some deeply hidden secrets are uncovered.

If Jayne could possibly put all of the pieces of this puzzle together, she is not only going to learn the truth behind her grandma’s death, she is going to catch a killer whose been wandering through this village for four decades now.

   I read all the Whispering Pines series in2 weeks. Couldn’t put them down,!!!
   Im truly hoping the next one comes out soon. I want to know what they all do about Flavia!!! Love this series!!!

   Will there be more in the Whispering Pines series? #12 still left us without a resolution of what to do with Flavia – I read all 12 the past several weeks and loved them! Please give us more! Thanks!
