Shayne Silvers is an American author who made his name writing several series of popular paranormal and fantasy novels. He is often described as a man of power and mystery, whose mystery is only exceeded by his power. The Nate Temple Supernatural series of novels is one of his most popular works. The novels feature a young wizard known as Nate Temple, who is on a quest to protect his hometown of St Louis from a variety of paranormal nasties, which populate many novels that we have come to love from our childhood. Nate is a tough guy that has been known to steal Death’s horse, cow tip the Minotaur, and sucker punch an angel. He writes about characters who express utter disregard for self-preservation and consequences, that will leave any thriller reader cringing on the edge of their seat and bursting out in laughter. In addition to the Nate Temple series, Silvers is also the author of the Feathers and Fire series. Unlike the Temple series, this series is set in Kansas City, and features a rookie female wizard who is in the employ of the Vatican Shepherds. When Shayne is not writing his thrillers he loves to engage in martial arts, and has asserted that two high-ranking black belts. He also enjoys conversations about the mythological and magical. He can also be found downing shots of espresso at the nearby coffee shop, while cackling madly with friends.

Shayne Silvers has always loved reading ever since he was a child, and even won an award from a publication for a short story he wrote in the 4th grade. While he has asserted that it was nothing special, he ran with it, and his win served to reinforce his dream of one day becoming a writer. As a child, he grew up on Ayn Rand, Terry Goodkind, and Robert Jordan, and a lot many other novels from all manner of authors and genres. For the most part, he loved books featuring pulp fiction heroes, gods, super villains, ancient heroes, mythical creatures, and any paranormal and urban fantasy best-sellers. Most of these stories would leave the young Silvers feeling that maybe he could have done a better job with the characterization, plot, or the magic in a novel. He would however experience a slump in his reading when he went to college, as everything seemed to bore him to death, no matter what he tried. A few years later, he had gone completely downhill and was reduced to picking peaches on a farm in Colorado. However, it was during this time that he began to make a few scribbles here and there while he was sleeping in a barn. While nothing that he produced at this time was worthwhile, it rejigged his love for writing, and he realized that he was made for a professional writing career. Two years later he had published his first novel “Obsidian Son” in the Temple Chronicles series of novels, he has never looked back since.

Shayne Silvers novels are modern day thriller rides full of werewolves, wizards, Greek and Roman legends, demons, angels, and dragons among a whole range of supernatural freaks. The novels have Silver’s trademark dark humor, fast pace, and a ton of action to keep the reader on the edge of their seat from the first page to the last. According to Pape, the inspiration for the characters and plots in the series of novels comes from everything that he experiences in real life. As such, he uses anything from people he has encountered in real life clever banter at the bar to beautiful pieces of art. When we are first introduced to the lead in the series, Nate is billionaire heir and well accomplished wizard who runs his own bookstore. He has the Harry Dresden like aura of a don’t care attitude towards people, especially those in authority, as he prefers to live his life as he sees fit. When he is not working to solve a range of mysteries in his hometown, Nate prefers to hang out with Peter, a non-supernatural and non-magical friend, and werewolf and FBI agent, Gunnar. Nate Temple is an intriguing character given his arrogance that makes him a representation of the old times when people were not so politically correct.

“Obsidian Son” is the story of Nate Temple, who has to postpone his quest for revenge when St Louis is suddenly invaded by shape shifting dragons. He finds himself in a dilemma with every supernatural thug looking to eliminate him after he cow tipped the Minotaur. The only way to get out of his predicament involves killing one of his best friends, which is something he cannot even contemplate. He has two choices; he could put on hold his quest for vengeance or kill to save his hometown. However, either option will throw his conscience and the world into cataclysmic chaos that it may never emerge from. Moreover, either option would serve to show the world the effectiveness of magic and prove the bloodthirsty nature of monsters that would cause worldwide panic. If he is to survive, he may need to read from How to influence Monsters and Win Friends. Obsidian Son is an enthralling novel for any thriller fan who loves the likes of Patrick Rothfuss, Kevin Hearne, or Jim Butcher.

“Blood Debts” the second novel is set in St Louis where the Mardi Gras festival is ongoing. Nate Temple’s cannot find anything to celebrate as dreams of carnage and chaos that fill his nights with horrifying terrors. Given that he cannot sleep, he uses his night to try to harness his magical powers to become the strongest wizard in the city. However, his fellow wizards are now envious of him and have him in their cross hairs. The wizards want to take away his mysterious powers or failing that kill him. Still looking to avenge his parents, he is now fighting a war on two fronts only to realize that he is facing one of the most vicious of enemies. It would seem that he has all along been playing checkers while his assailants have been playing chess, putting him in a very dangerous situation. Facing biblical big hitters, he will have to survive without his magic and revenge his parents, or failing that meet his death.
