Sheryl Lister is a bestselling romance author who has always enjoyed writing and reading for as long as she can remember. However, she put writing on the back burner for a while when she was involved in other things in her life.

She is a member of the Voice of Romance Writers and the Romance Writers of America (RWA). Lister went to San Jose University, where she got her bachelor of science in Occupational Therapy. She, later on, went back to the same university to earn her master’s degree in the same area of study.

When she is not writing, reading, or playing chauffeur, she can usually be found in the kitchen creating bite-sized desserts and appetizers and going on dates with her husband.

Sheryl now lives in California and is a pediatric occupational therapist, mother to three children, and proud grandmother.

As a child growing up, Sheryl Lister always loved writing and reading rather than watching TV. She would always be found curled up somewhere with a pencil, notebook, and a book when others were busy with TV.

She made her storytelling debut when she wrote a romance in the seventh grade which her teacher graded an F. Her teacher did not believe that 12-year-old Lister could write such a great story.

Once she was straightened out by Sheryl’s mother, she apologized and praised her. She kicked on from there and continued writing stories. However, she never showed any of the stories she wrote in her teenage years and young adulthood to anyone but her mother.

As a black older woman, she was delighted with the launch of Arabesque books in the 1990s as she saw it as a gold mine. Soon after she went and got every writing instruction book and manual so that she cloud get started writing.

But life responsibilities including children, a job, and marriage interfered and writing took a back seat.

While Sheryl Lister was swamped with life responsibilities and could not write, she never stopped reading. When her mother passed on in 2009, she began writing again as she realized life was too short to keep postponing one’s dreams.

She grabbed a spiral-bound book on a vacation and put the story she had in her mind for years on paper. But a year later, she was interrupted once again by life’s responsibilities until she was recovering from back surgery, which is when she got back to it.

While she was recovering, she started getting vivid scenes of her story and within three weeks she was done writing the draft. Even though that manuscript will probably never see the light of day, it showed her that she could write and finish a story.

She learned everything she could about writing, read articles and blogs, bought books, joined writing organizations, and took a couple of workshops in addition to writing contests.

In 2013, she got a chance to pitch to the editor and Harlequin Romance and she was requested to send a full manuscript. One month later, the editor called her back with an offer and “Just to Be with You” was published in 2014.

Sheryl Lister’s novel “Tender Kisses” is the story of Siobhan Gray.
