Redemption’s Edge

Redemption’s Edge is the first book in Shirleen Davies Redemption Mountain series. Dax Pelletier is ready to start a new life, far from what he left behind after the devastating defeat of the Civil War in Savannah. The former General Confederate wants nothing more to do with commanders and face the hard truths of leadership.

Rachel Davenport has other abilities than her colleagues in Boston society, skills acquired as a field nurses during the Civil War. Rachel avoids her northeastern suitors and transformed by the brutality she’s seen in the battlefield, she accepts without hesitation her uncle’s invitation to help her at his clinic on the wild and dangerous border with Montana.

Now, a Texas Ranger, serving to fulfill a promise made to his friend, Dax and his brother Luke embark on a journey into untamed Montana. He will fulfill his promise and head back to Austin, or so he believes. The rural town of Splendor is exactly what Rachel needs after spending most of her life in the city. In a few months she has come to love the town’s people and the majestic beauty of the wild frontier. She settled in a new life she thought was impossible. Thinking that his bad days in the battlefield are finally over, Dax now faces another danger now: one from people from his past who seek revenge and the other of Rachel, the woman who has conquered his heart.

Rachel is a strong heroine. She is determined, compassionate, and quite confident in her abilities as a nurse. On the other hand, Dax is hardworking, intelligent and still affected by the horrors of the Civil War. Sparks fly between Dax and Rachel but there are some challenges they need to overcome for them to be together. Dax is threatened by both internal and external conflicts, an adversary from the past threatens his future and the new enemies he creates create more havoc. Rachel is also convinced that Dax has his future planned but she is sure she is not part of his plan and rather than wait, she takes matters in her own hands. Full of tension, danger, and romance, Shirleen Davies Redemption’s Edge is a fantastic and strong start to Redemption’s Mountain series.
