Author Sienna Mercer was an only child, and always wanted a sibling, mainly a twin. She feels having a twin would have been awesome, but sadly she was never able to have a twin sister. So, when she grew up, she wrote about a girl that reminded Sienna of herself, and gave her a fabulous and fun and long lost twin that she could come up with.

From the time that she was just a teen, she started writing stories. It happened when a cheerleading practice got canceled due to rain, and has never stopped writing since then. She used to sit on her bed and write in her red leather notebooks, and now does her writing while she is in her attic. It is pretty dark in there and has some cobwebs; it is the best place to think about vampires in. It is covered in photos that she has taken during her traveling. She keeps the old red notebooks in a chest near her desk in the attic.

Her series, called “My Sister the Vampire”, began publication in the year 2007, when “Switched” was released; the books are for kids grades four to eight. Three of the books were released in this year alone. The idea for the series came from a daydream where she started thinking about what it would be like to have a twin sister that was super cool and happened to be a vampire. She simply loved each of the characters, not to mention their family and friends, and could not stop writing about them.

When not thinking about cheerleading and vampires, she likes to travel and see new cities, and keeps an extensive scrapbook of each place she has gone to.

She lives in Toronto, Canada (where she also grew up) with her two beautiful kitty cats named Angel and Calypso, who always keep her company.

“Switched” is the first novel in the “My Sister the Vampire” series which was released in the year 2007. Olivia Abbott is new to the town, and is all excited about making some new friends and joining the cheerleading team. She meets a girl named Ivy Vega. Ivy is dressed in all black and pale, making her seem to be Olivia’s opposite. Then they are able to see past all the thick eyeliner and pink blush to see they are exactly the same. No really. They are actually identical twins.

They come up with all kinds of plans to change places and pull every trick they can. Quickly, Olivia finds out that she and Ivy are not quite entirely the same. Ivy is also a vampire. She is not even the only one in the town.

Fans of the novel found these to be smart enough for parents and fun enough for their kids. This is an enjoyable light read, mainly for middle school girls that like light stories about vampires. The book is quite funny and cute, one of the cutest some had read in some time. Ivy and Olivia act a lot older and some could not help but like them a lot.

“Fangtastic” is the second novel in the “My Sister the Vampire” series which was released in the year 2007. After finding out that Ivy is a vampire, Olivia (who is a bunny, which is what vampires call humans) has been absorbing everything that Ivy has told her about the Franklin Grove vampire community. Every bit of it is top secret, and Olivia swears up and down that she is not going to tell anyone else.

There is Serena Star, who is a rather nosy tabloid reporter, that is sticking her nose into things. The closer she gets to the truth, the more Olivia and Ivy have to throw her off the track. This is a fangtastic piece of news that just cannot get out.

Fans of the novel enjoy reading about the complicated and strong relationship the twins have in this series; as their many differences serve to make them get along that much better. Some readers could not read this any quicker if they tried. Some get done with one novel, and cannot wait to get started on the next one to see what will come next.

“Re-Vamped” is the third novel in the “My Sister the Vampire” series which was released in the year 2007. Olivia and Ivy have told their friends they are vampires and have to tell the people that have adopted them. Ivy’s father has no interest in meeting Olivia.

Vampire officials find out that Olivia knows the truth on vampires, and they insist she take a trio of tests to prove that she is worthy of even having the secret. Whoops. One thing is certain, if these sisters can get through this tough spot, nothing can stop them.

Fans of the novel found the quest the girls go on to locate their birth parents to be an awesome one. The book has some interesting reveals in it, as the kids dig into who their mother is, and why they were adopted. For some, the book was even better than the last book. Yet again, Mercer has topped herself with this one, giving fans another book they can enjoy really quickly.

“Vampalicious!” is the fourth novel in the “My Sister the Vampire” series which was released in the year 2008. Ivy and Olivia reunited just months ago, and already are unable to imagine what life would be like if they separated again.

Mr. Vega is going to take Ivy with him when he moves to Europe. That is just no good. They are determined to put together a great plan, using Olivia’s optimism and Ivy’s craftiness, that is going to allow for Ivy and her father to stay put in the town of Franklin Grove. What can they come up with?

Fans of the novel found themselves grinning the entire time they were reading it, it is a feel good read after all. The ending to the novel feels just right for this kind of story. The books are able to pull in older people as well, they do not just appeal to kids. Some enjoyed it so much, they recommend that everyone read it.
