Simon Hawke is an American author who writes mainly science fiction and fantasy, but also historical fiction. He was born in 1951, in New York City, USA as Nicholas Valentin Yermakov. Hawke attended Hofstra University and Western New Mexico University, and has had many jobs aside from being an author. Hawke has several interests and hobbies including history, motorcycles, pistol marksmanship, and martial arts. He has been a motorcycle salesman, construction and factory worker, bookstore clerk, radio announcer, and armed guard among other things. He has also been an instructor for writing and related subjects at several colleges and Universities including but not limited to Pima Community College in Tucson Arizona, North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Elon College in Elon, North Carolina. He’s also been a Guest faculty member at several colleges and Universities.

Hawke began writing under the name Simon Hawke in 1984, and later legally changed his name from Nicholas Yermakov to Simon Hawke, but he has also written under the names JD Masters and SL Hunter. He’s also written and published books under his birth name. He is best known for his original works, but has also written numerous TV and film novelizations including several Friday the 13th, Predator 2, and Star Trek.

Simon Hawke’s first major work under his new legal name is the Time Wars series, which follows the adventures of an organization whose job is to protect history from being changed by time travellers.

Another well-known series is the Wizard series, which is set in a futuristic world in crisis due to the depletion of their natural resources. Merlin, who had been held captive for centuries under a spell, is released and uses magic to replace technology. A majority of the series is set a hundred years after Merlin’s release from captivity, where machines are now run by magic. The series is set in multiple locations including Japan, France, England, New York City, Los Angeles, and New Mexico.

A Mystery of Errors is one of Hawke’s works in historical fiction, and it’s a humorous crime novel set during William Shakespeare’s time. This series follows a young William Shakespeare who hasn’t yet found his fame in play writing. He meets and becomes friends with an aspiring actor names Symington Smythe II, and together they attempt to boost their careers by doing low-level work for a drama troupe. Shakespeare gets on the wrong side of a group of killers for hire, and Smythe helps a young woman who is unhappy with an arranged marriage. Several books after A Mystery of Errors follow the pair in their adventures.

Another book that Hawke wrote in historical fiction is Sons of Glory, a novel about the early years of the American Civil War. This novel follows the Gallio family, who claim to be descendants of warriors dating back to Hannibal, with journals supposedly dating back 2000 years.

As Nicholas Yermakov, Hawke wrote the Boomerang trilogy which include Last Communion, Epiphany, and Jehad. In this trilogy, Boomerang is an alien world inhabited by Shades, who are able to absorb the personalities of dying humans. Humans see this as a way to achieve immortality and are quick to exploit this.
