Author David Beers writes the “Singularity” series, which is a science fiction, thriller, and dystopian series. It began publication in the year 2014, when “Heretic” was released.
The series is about man inventing an Artificial Intelligence (which is called The Genesis) that comes to life, and makes mankind its slave. This is after it finds that the world would end up in ruins if man was allowed to continue to rule it. A faction of humans, which is called The Named, rise up and start a revolution to try and free themselves. The only hope The Named has lies with Caesar Wells.
“Heretic” is the first novel in the “Singularity” series, which was released in the year 2014. Early in the twenty-first century, humanity marveled at the greatest thing it had created: Artificial Intelligence. They were unable to see the consequences of this great creation, though.
It was deemed The Genesis, the Intelligence quickly chose that humanity was unable to continue in the current form that it had. If it did, the world was going to be destroyed in a matter of time. It resorted to drastic measures, entire generations of humans were grown in labs. In under a thousand years, the threat of destruction went away.
A man named Caesar emerges, in a time when humans have to meet certain specifications to keep on living. He does not meet specifications at all. He thinks all kinds of things that no human being should. All eyes are falling on Caesar, these eyes could either murder him or lift him right up. Leading him to either tragedy or to revolution.
Fans of the novel found this to be a well written story set in the future with a lot of deception, action, as well as many plot twists which keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The book is able to hook you in and suck you right into the new world that humans live in. The writer’s style is unique, which allows readers to feel all the difficulties and inner emotions that Caesar is feeling. The book makes you ponder about the world we currently live in, and wonder if we are driven and controlled by technology.
“Traitor” is the second novel in the “Singularity” series, which was released in the year 2015. Caesar Wells takes the position of leader for The Named, and they intensely prepare for six months. After which, they attack The Genesis, with the goal of destroying the very artificial intelligence that has enslaved humanity.
There are others around Caesar that have their own ideas, though. Some inside The Named have no trust in Caesar. There are those that would rather he be dead than be their leader. Caesar, who is only focused on defeating the Genesis, is unable to see that there are signs of insurrection all around him.
The Genesis has a plan of its own. One that is going to lead Caesar right to its door, in a confrontation that he cannot possibly be prepared for.
As he gets ready to go to battle, there are some unseen dark forces that are mixing with each other. Each and every one of them is ready to destroy the guy that is bound and determined to give humanity its freedom back.
Fans of the novel found this to be much more intense than the first one, and made readers keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Readers enjoyed the story, finding that they cannot wait to see what is going to happen next. The characters are defined well and allow you the chance to relate to the thoughts and troubles they have, all while they have to deal with the world they live in.
“Emissaries” is the third novel in the “Singularity” series, which was released in the year 2015. Manny’s going insane dropped Caesar to his knees, however, even this was not enough to keep The Genesis satisfied. It wants even more. It wants every member of The Named.
The Genesis begins recruiting new and lethal applications and it starts remaking the world once more, creating a planet with no controls or order.
The Named run to try and save themselves and Caesar’s will is unable to match the treacherous plans The Genesis is making. All of his strength and power does not seem to be enough to stop The Genesis or its quest for total domination.
With Caesar’s revolution falling apart all around him, will he be able to find out what is happening soon enough to save the lives of his loved ones? Will he be able to fight back against the biggest destructive force that was ever created by man or is it all lost?
Fans of the novel found themselves actually hating the villain of the book. The author is able to pull the reader in even more this time around, which is a big feat, as some were quite hooked already. Right when you believe you know what will happen next, a curve ball is thrown at you and you are way off. Somehow, David Beers is able to make each book better than the one that came before it.
“Revolutionary” is the fourth novel in the “Singularity” series, which was released in the year 2015. It all comes down to Caesar’s decision. The Genesis remade the whole world once for peace. Now, it is using Mock, a rather sadistic application, to remake the world once more. However, when Mock is finished this time, there will only be ash and blood to show what is left of mankind’s legacy.
As the world crumbles, Manny is holding on to everything that Caesar loves. Paige and Leon are locked away in a chamber filled with pain, and Caesar cannot make way to them. The last humans built their fortress surrounding Manny, and were intent on killing anything and anyone that even remotely resembled The Named.
Caesar has to choose what he values more, those he loves or the rest of humanity.
Readers found these books to be both thought provoking and complex reads. For some, they sparked philosophical conversations with their friends.
