Solomon Carter
Solomon Carter is a mystery writer with a good number of mystery thriller series to his name. The talented author was born in Southend, Essex, and lived here for a good part of his life. His life in Southend meant that he lived around crime hence his reason for focusing in this area. After graduating, Carter worked in several jobs in different industries before moving to North Cornwall and focusing his efforts on writing. Carter enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also a writer and his two young children.
The Darkest Lies
The Darkest Lies is the first book in the DI Hogarth series. DI Joe Hogarth’s life changes when he gets involved in a murder case relating to a local big man. When a man known for extortion is brutally murdered in a seaside nightclub, Hogarth and his team are called to the crime. A quick investigation determines that there is a young man who took off right before this murder happened. Even though there is little indication that this young man had any motivation to kill, Hogarth feels that talking to him would be a great idea. One he tracks the youth, Hogarth uncovers a feud that is a few generations old and a crime darker than he originally anticipated.
With the reappearance of a ghost from a forgotten past, the lies that span two generations are exposed. Hogarth is stunned, to say the least, but he takes matters into his own hands, and this comes at a price. As the police work to uncover all the details, in this case, another murder is recorded. Now Hogarth and the team have to rush against time to catch the killers before more damage is done. Hogarth’s reputation is at stake, and no one knows when and who the killer is targeting next. Will Hogarth manage to catch the killer without risking the lives of the men in his team?
There is a lot to love in this story. First is all the action that starts right from the first page. A lot is going on here, ranging from secret affairs to lies and betrayal. The main character is also quite intriguing. Hogarth is great at his job, but with his personal life going to a crisis, he lets the reader into his vulnerabilities. The conclusion is thrilling as Hogarth and the team race to stop the killer. This story is told from different points of view. It is incredible that you also get to hear from the killer. While his identity stays hidden to the end, he is a silent observer who lets the reader know his thoughts as the police close in on him.
The Darkest Lies is a gripping detective thriller characterized by flawed characters, police procedurals, and numerous unforeseen twists and turns. Set in the Southend-on-sea, a suburban town where the rich and poor live side by side, this story exposes the poverty, crime, and addictions that come with similar setups. Follow Hogarth as he works hard to solve this case. There are many other characters you will meet in the course of this book, all flawed and well fleshed out. The killer is very smart, so the police have to sweat to get him. This is a great read if you like detective and police work stories.
Between Two Thieves
Between Two Thieves is the first book in the Between Two Thieves Private Investigator series. The book stars PI Eva Roberts and her able partner Dan Bradly. This book starts with a missing hero whose body has just been discovered on the beach. There is also a woman in distress. Lauren, Roberts’s former friend, begs her to save her life from an abusive partner who will not let her go or treat her right when she stays. The distressed woman knows that her boyfriend will kill her immediately she makes a move, and the only person she can trust with this information is Roberts.
A little while after the first body is discovered, another one shows up on the beach. Now Roberts has too much on her plate, and she finds it hard to keep working on Lauren’s case. What Roberts doesn’t anticipate is the nightmare that awaits her. How does she solve this case when there is little, if any, information? The dead men have little in common. Carl Renton was a great man and a hero in the eyes of those who know him. On the other hand, Norman Peters is a colorful rogue who is sure to have enough enemies. When Roberts takes an in-depth look in their lives, she uncovers a crime wave in the city that leaves its residents dead and the society torn apart.
At possibly the worst of times, this case takes a dark twist, and Roberts is to take an in-depth look in her personal life and forgive in order to proceed. It is clear that more blood is going to be spilled unless Roberts and her team can nub the seaside killer. What starts as a simple break-in has now turned into a dark story that will require loads of law involvement and level-headed thinking. It is amazing how Roberts and Bradley show up for each other in this story. DI Hogarth also makes an appearance, and his detective skills help these two investigators close in on the killer. The author also lets the reader into their personal lives, making them more relatable and harder to forget.
Between Two Thieves is a gripping story characterized by murders, some humor, and just the right dose of romance. There are skilled private investigators involved, and the race to catch the killers will leave you breathless. Join Roberts and Bradley as they chase a seasoned murderer and other evildoers through the English countryside. The author will keep you guessing the killer to the end, but you can be sure that the wait will be well worth it. If you are looking for a good suspenseful thriller with murders and drug dealers involved, this is a great choice.
