An Indian writer, Sonali Dev is a well respected author of contemporary romance fiction, as she has come to be regarded as one of the foremost leading figures currently working within her industry to date, writing stories inspired from her background, lending a distinctly Indian inspired voice to industry, and one that stands out thanks to her warm sense of personality and humor that manages to shine through on each page. Creating realistic characters in situations that the reader feels they can relate to, she has a style and tone that really works on its own merit, allowing a whole new and fresh perspective. This goes some way towards explaining how she has come to have the success she has had, as readers worldwide have found and appreciated her work, taking to it in droves. The manner in which she writes is both fluid and effortless, allowing it to come alive off the page almost, giving the reader an insight into another world, all whilst following many of the tropes of the romance genre, as the stories follow a fulfilling path right until to the very final page. Over time she has come a long way, writing both a book series along with stand-alone works too, all of which has seen her develop her style too, as she has progressed over the years, ever since the release of her first book back in 2014 when she was first introduced to the reading public at large. Building a general sense of excitement around each release she has managed to capture a sense of urgency and immediacy, whilst simultaneously not overwhelming the audience, allowing them to feel at home in a sense with her work. Providing a feeling of familiarity through her novels, she establishes a real feeling of what it’s like to be there, providing a definite sense of feeling, something which she continues to build within her many books to follow.

Early and Personal Life

Born in India on the 17th of September, she would take to writing from an early age, even going so far as to pen her first play at the young age of eight. This was then performed in Mumbai at her neighborhood Diwali extravaganza, giving a voice to her work for the first time in public, thus cementing her love the for the form. Over the years she would continue to harbor a passion for both reading and writing and, although she would go on to get degrees in different subjects, she would always hold literature as her first and foremost love.

Getting a degree in written communication and architecture she would always be interested in reading and writing, something she would continue to nurture alongside her other studies. This would lead to her traveling all across the globe following her graduation, as she would take up writing for travel magazines and websites, all of which would allow her to build up her experience. Now living in Chicago, America, with her husband, they both live together their two teenagers, as she continues to write full-time at a regular and ever consistent pace.

Writing Career

It was 2016 that Sonali Dev would bring out her first novel with the title ‘A Bollywood Affair’, which would ultimately make her name as an important writer of modern romance. This book would also be the first in an ongoing series called the ‘Bollywood’ series, set around the theme of Indian and Bollywood culture, as it took a realistic look at the many issues surrounding it. It would do this in a way that would be universally accessible, thus explaining why it created such an impact upon its initial release, giving a voice to its author.

The critics as well as the general public would quickly sit-up and take notice of what she had to offer as an author, allowing her to become a far more prolific figure. Having written for travel magazines and such in the past she already had some profile, as well as a down-to-earth and accessible style of writing that allowed her to come across in an easy to read manner. This is something that will continue on into the foreseeable future, as she has a lot more books set to follow, with her writing grows from strength-to-strength.

A Change of Heart

Written in 2016 this was initially produced in December on the 27th that year, thus releasing the third part of her now ongoing ‘Bollywood’ series of novels. Titled ‘A Change of Heart’ it was another title in the series of loosely connected stories, tied together by themes of modern relationships within and around contemporary Indian culture, this being brought out through the ‘Kensington’ publishing label. Providing the readers with more of what they’ve now come to expect from the series, it manages to give them all that and more, whilst also adding to that formula taking it in new directions in the process.

Working as part of ‘Doctors Without Borders’ Dr. Nikhil ‘Nic’ Joshi seems to have it all until his wife, Jen, is killed after discovering an underground Mumbai organ transplant ring. This leads to Nic becoming a cruise ship doctor, as he staves off alcoholism and bad memories. That’s when Jess turns up telling Nic she received Jen’s heart in a transplant and she has a message for him, as she then attempts to uncover the organ ring. Just what is the message? Can she uncover the ring? What caused a change of heart?

A Distant Heart

Working as a stand-alone title this time for Sonali Dev, this title sees more romance coming out from the ‘Kensington Publishing Corp.’ this time. With her name having already been well established by this point it manages to capture a lot of what made her previous novels work, whilst also taking her writing career in a new and interesting direction, developing it in the process. Originally brought out in 2017 on the 26th of December this would further establish her career as one of the most prominent voices currently working within her industry to date.

Having survived after a number of miscarriages from her parents, Kimaya is believed to be a ‘miracle’, which is exactly what her name means in Sanskrit. Living a life of privilege she grows up in Mumbai’s Pali Hill, a happy upbringing which is suddenly cut short at the age of eleven when she develops a rare illness that sees her confined to her room. That’s when Rahul turns up when she’s fourteen, thus providing her with a set of eyes to the outside world, but it’s when a heart transplant provides her with potential freedom that they find they could finally be together. Will they get their wish? Can she ever escape her confines? What will become of a distant heart?
