Sonja Yoerg is a published author.

Yoerg was born in Vermont and spent her childhood growing up in Stowe. Her parent taught skiing. She used to be an animal behaviorist and wrote down her thoughts in a book, then moved on to fiction where she is able to make things up.

When she is not busy writing, she pursues her hobbies of eating, cooking, gardening, running, drinking wine, and exercising. She is married and resides along with her husband in the United States in Virginia’s central region. Just like the state of Vermont, it is tranquil and beautiful, complete with a gorgeous view of the local mountains.

Yoerg first came into print officially with the release of the nonfiction book in 2001. She took some time off for a while and then came back to the literary world with the release of her debut work of fiction. It came out in 2015 and is titled House Broken. She has since written more novels which have been received well.

Sonja worked hard and funded her adult education by working as a waitress at a lodge owned by the Trapp family. She knew members of the family personally, even receiving a gift for her birthday from Maria (it was a cuckoo clock at sixteen).

She went to study psychology in Amherst, graduating from the University of Massachusetts with her Bachelors. She would go on to Berkeley to attend the University of California and graduated with her Ph.D. in Biological Psychology. She has two daughters and taught in California while they were attending there, moving on to writing as her full time job once they got to the college age.

The first book to come into print form from this author is the interesting Clever As a Fox. If you are interested in books that talk about engaging subjects that are real, or just love nonfiction, check out this awesome and totally thought-provoking debut.

This is a look at animal intelligence and the entire world that makes it up. Sonja starts out by exploring the topic of animal consciousness. She states that evidence has come out that has proven long-held beliefs wrong in the process. Past theories that animals are machines of reflex that react without having consciousness or thought are wrong, according to the author.

The consequence of this study was a quick pivot to put the microscope on the topic of what we would deem animal intelligence. The author explores the question of what intelligence truly is. Could it be our learning ability, our ability to recall things, our skill at surviving? What is it that makes the difference between something being defined as intelligence or instinct?

This author dives into the topic and invites the reader to wonder along with her why dolphins are considered (and actually are) more intelligent than the eagle, or why worms are just not considered to be as smart as bees. She also may finally tackle and even solve the age old question of whether a cat is more intelligent than its canine counterpart.

This is a book that you can pick up and read in one sitting or break into different parts. Clever lives up to its own name, as Yoerg jumps from behaviorism and Skinner over to the topic of evolutionary biology seemingly without effort. We have come to view animals a certain way, but are the various ways that animals and their acts, intelligence, and various motivations end up interpreted often incorrect?

If you’re interested in reading about the human understanding of animals as well as our relationships to these creatures, this is a book to add to your must read pile at the top! If you’re looking for detailed and engaging nonfiction, check out this really cool book and read it all from the beginning.

House Broken is the debut fictional novel from author Sonja Yoerg. If you are a big fiction fan and love when stories feature animals and a bit of compassion, you’re going to love this story.

Some humans just have their thing, and Geneva Novak’s thing would be taking care of animals. She has a talent for nursing them back to health or identifying their illnesses and prescribing the correct treatment in order for them to get better. If only it were as easy to fix the relationships that have fractured in the family as it were to help heal a cow or a cat.

Geneva is a vet for a living, which means that she gets to spend every day of her life pursuing her passion. It’s rare that you get to do something that you love so much, but for this young woman, she’s always had a special connection to animals that came to her naturally. Often, it was easier to get what they were about than people.

Geneva finds that she may soon have a new type of patient, however, when Helen gets into an accident. It appears that her mother is going to get in some trouble thanks to an incident sponsored partly by vodka. Now her daughter is in the position of having to take care of her since she has no one else.

There has always been a reason that this vet stayed away from her mother. Her mom was self destructive through her teen years, and she kept a careful distance to avoid getting burned. She now has two children of her own at that age. It seems like a horrible idea to have her mother coming into her home considering that.

Even though she is reluctant to have Helen come into their home with the family, her husband is the one that speaks to her about it. This could be the one chance that the two of them have to reconcile and put the past behind them. But can Geneva open her heart to possibly mending the relationship?

For this young mother, it seems like a really big risk to take. She doesn’t think that her mom could change. However, if she can get some answers, it may be worth it. Will she pursue the truth? Pick up this book to find out how this story ends!
