Space Team Series
Space Team is a science fiction series by Barry J. Hutchison. The galaxy needs help, but a mistake happens, and they get the wrong man. Cal Carver is a small-time conman and doesn’t understand why a group of aliens would be interested in him. However, it doesn’t take long for him to know the truth, but it is worse than he thought. There is a virus designed to eliminate aliens, but it is destroying technology and all living things. Now this human has to be involved in a mission way beyond his abilities. How will he perform? What other adventures does he get involved in? Read this series for these and more.

Space Team
Space Team comes first in the Space Team series. The book introduces Cal Carver, a lovable human criminal who is on an unlucky streak. Cal has just been imprisoned and put in the same room with a cannibalistic serial killer. While Cal is anything but innocent, this was a case of mistaken identity. The aliens who captured him were looking for his roommate, Butcher, who is a cannibalistic serial killer. As if things cannot get any thicker, two-third of the world population is wiped out, and Cal is forced on a mission to save the rest of mankind. On this mission, Cal will be leading a team of scumbags and villains across the galaxy.

This would have been a fun adventure if Cal’s companions knew what they were doing. Instead, the team will have to survive one screw after another, and what seemed like a simple mission turned into a nightmare. In a frantic battle to save the alien civilization, Cal joins others on a space mission they are all unqualified and unprepared for. A mass-murdering zombie virus is on the loose, and it is killing both technology and any living thing. Many of the world’s population is already dead, and Cal and his team must move fast before things get out of hand. Will they find an antidote for the virus soon enough despite their inexperience?

One wonderful thing about this book is that it doesn’t make the pretense of being anything but pure entertainment. It is a perfect choice for anyone looking for a fun read they can gobble up in a few hours. There is humor on every page, and the misadventures the characters get themselves into will leave you in stitches. The writing is fluid and easy, and the cast endearing. You will fall in love with the heroes and villains alike, and by the end, you will be curious to see what happens to them in the next series. While the plot isn’t complex, it sets the tone for the rest of the series.
Space Team is a humorous read with unending action and numerous blowups. It is fun watching as Cal runs his mouth in every situation and Mizette the wolf-woman in action. Other characters that you will enjoy meeting include Spurt, the green, shapeshifting blob, and Loren, the alien pilot who has never undertaken such a task again. All these characters will take you on a fun ride to their world, where a lot is happening around them. It is notable how well the characters are fleshed out in the detail that has gone in describing certain events. Despite all these, the story remains light and funny. If you are looking for a silly space adventure, this book is perfect.

The Wrath of Vajazzle
The Wrath of Vajazzle is the second installment in the Space Team series. After saving the aliens from the Zombie virus, Cal and his crew are pretty pleased with their achievement. While they would like to sit back and relax, the galaxy has something else planned for them. The zombie virus creator is not happy that Cal and his friends thwarted his mission. He is out for revenge, and he has the world’s deadliest assassin on his side. However, Lady Vajazzle quickly realizes that the Space Team is protected by the Greyx species, so her first plan wouldn’t work. The mission has to be completed, but she will have to find another way to accomplish it.

Lady Vajazzle has to go with plan B if she is to complete her mission and eliminate this team. However, this plan is so diabolical it could destabilize the entire star system. This is the least of her worries, plus her boss is so set on revenge he wouldn’t care much about the devastating effects. With no time to waste, Cal must move quickly to outgun this seasoned killer before Butcher is murdered and the whole galaxy annihilated. Just like in the first book, this man will be tackling forces way beyond his abilities, but he somehow manages to win despite mishaps.

This book comes with everything you want in a light sci-fi story. There is the action, humor, and everything in between. A psycho villain with a dazzling smile is involved, and things keep dying while others are being eaten. The world-building is solid, and the fun tone makes this an ideal choice when you want a fun read. There is also the humor that comes on every page. Cal’s adventures never seem to go without action, and all the other creatures act as great companions as he figures things out on the go. Can Cal stop the assassin and her plans?

The Wrath of Vajazzle is a bizarre, crazy, and fun read. It is one of those strange books that you grow to love and cannot stop reading. You will enjoy interacting with all the crazy creatures and the peculiar robot on the ship. Their conversations will have you hooked, and you will keep flipping the pages to see what they do next. The narration is also outstanding, and it is fun joining Cal on yet another adventure. While this is the second installment in the series, you will still enjoy it as a standalone. It is about 280 pages in length, so you can read it all in a sitting or two.
