Perhaps best known for her ‘Body Movers’ set of mystery novels, American author Stephanie Bond has been producing her greatly received series of books for some years now. With her populist appeal and light-hearted tone, she’s an easily accessible writer who has found national and international success. As she expands upon her franchise, she continues to attract audiences from far and wide, a trend which shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up in eastern Kentucky, USA, Stephanie Bond enjoyed the farm life from an early age where she was born and raised taking inspiration from the environment around her. With a carefree childhood she was able to concentrate on her passion for literature as well as her enjoyment of all things nature. A voracious reader too, she would always be found with her head in a book taking in everything she could, building on her love for the written word. This was amongst all her other activities, which included gardening and tending to life upon the farm generally, amongst other creative pursuits such as painting.
Starting out with an interest in business as she saw herself as a more academic person, she continued to harbor creative writing as a personal pastime, but not as a serious way to make a living for herself. This was all soon to change though, after a long period of climbing the corporate ladder. Despite her success in big business, she later found that her love of writing took over after some working her way up through a fortune 500 company and graduating from university. With more free-time one day she began to turn towards creative writing and found it finally becoming a passion of hers. She was then to start her career as a successful author of romantic and humorous literature, something which she’s never looked back on since starting.
Writing Career
Completing her first book in 1995 to Harlequin Books, she made her first initial sale after working at it for years in her spare time, as she finally finished her first manuscript. This was for a new line of romantic comedy books they were producing and it was with that that she began her writing career after making the sale and her name as a successful author. Producing a lot more books for the company she continued to create a vast number of different works for them and, by 1997, had successfully written over ten books for them and another publisher as well. It was then that she went on to write full-time leaving her behind her old job in the corporate world and making a new life for herself as an author of contemporary romantic comedy fiction.
Starting her ‘Body Movers’ series in 2006, she began to branch out by herself creating her own franchises, as she has successfully built her own business and recognizable brand name for her many readers. Translated into a number of different languages, she’s not only managed to get acclaim nationally, but also internationally as well, as her appeal has spread worldwide. With over 6 million copies sold worldwide, her career continues to grow from strength-to-strength every year.
Body Movers
The first of her ‘Body Movers’ series overall, this was the initial novel that was the beginning of everything, setting up the tone, world and the character for Stephanie Bond and her readers. First published in 2006, this helped established the general ambiance and what to expect from the series as a whole, thus making her impact on the scene as a fully fledged author. Not only that, but it also managed to provide much of the trademarked humor for which Bond has become famous for now.
In it the character of Carlotta Wren is introduced as she’s found in a state where her life isn’t going quite as she’d initially planned it to go with everything apparently upside-down and seemingly topsy-turvy. Raising her brother, she’s been left with him after her parents were caught and prosecuted after they’d attempted to skip their bail for an extremely small white-collar crime. Taking care of him, she’s forced to fend for herself missing college in the process as she has to turn her hand to retail in order to make ends meet for the both of them. She’s also been left single after her blue-blooded fiancee left her over ten years ago, something which she has now had to put into the past. That’s when she gets her first mystery after her brother is arrested, before being given a job in the morgue by a cop she takes a liking to. Suspected of killing a former ex’s fiancee, she has to prove her innocence before it’s too late. Will she be able to find out who committed the crime in time, or will it be too late? Can she ever find her parents and what happened to them after they disappeared all those years ago, and how will the attractive cop help her to do so? What will become of Carlotta Wren as she goes about finding more on the body movers?
Stop the Wedding!
Originally published in 2012, this book followed in much the same vein as those of Stephanie Bond’s previous works had as it concerns more in the line of romantic comedy. Featuring new characters and a new scenario, it’s a light-hearted casual read that shows the now adept author excelling at what she’s best at. At this period she had also become self-published with a wide audience she knows, so it’s more idiosyncratic to her own uniquely honed voice.
Featuring the story of two younger people who are finding that their parents are set to be wed, they go about attempting to stop the marriage, which they feel would be a disaster. Over the course of the book though their attention turns to each other as they begin to get romantic feeling for one another. There’s still the hassle of the upcoming wedding though, and what they really want to do about it. Will they be able to stop the ceremony in time, and should they even stop it? Can they realize their true feelings for each other before it’s too late? What will become of them all as they look to stop the wedding?
