An author of historical and fantasy fiction, the American writer Stephanie Dray is a world renowned writer and practitioner of her craft, being a highly vocal spokesperson within her field. Writing with a high degree of accuracy and precision, she has been able to build a career from writing about historical subject that are well researched and well established, drawing her readers in, giving them a clear insight into what it was actually like at that period in time. Not only does she conjure up different eras with her evocative prose, though, but she also manages to draw fully three-dimensional characters who really resonate with the reader, regardless of where they are from. Combining both character and story, she is able to create stories that really ring true, allowing her readers to not only gain an insight, but to also find something that they can relate to within her many themes and ideas. Focusing largely on women’s fiction, she is able to provide an insight into what it was actually like for women at certain periods in time as well. Achieving bestseller status on numerous occasion, she has been able to amass an audience worldwide, generating a high level of publicity on her own accord. This is something that will continue for some time to come, with a lot more novels set to be released on into the foreseeable future.

Early and Personal Life

Born in America on the 4th of February in 1971, the future writer and novelist to be Stephanie Dray would always be found with her head in a book, holding a strong passion for both reading and writing from a very early age. This would then progress throughout the years, along with her specific areas of interest, something that would soon develop into a particular area of expertise. Over time she would also go on to graduate from higher education, all the while continuing to hone and refine her voice as a writer and novelist of women’s historical fiction.

Previously working as a lawyer as well as a teacher, she would gain a lot of insight into researching, as well as gaining experiences with which she would feed back into her work. This would be taken into writing, where she still uses her teaching skills to this very day, as she continues to pass on her knowledge and understanding of the craft to other up-and-coming writers looking to advance in her particular field. With a lot more to come yet, it appears that she isn’t stopping any time soon either, as she continues to write, living with husband near Washington D.C.

Writing Career

Starting out in 2011 with the novel ‘Lily of the Nile’ she would begin with the series ‘Cleopatra’s Daughter’, a book which would set the template with much of what was to follow. Creating a number of other series too, such as the ‘Pompeii’ franchise, she would also go on to work and collaborate with other writers too. Over the years she would go on to become one of the most prominent authors working within her field, being respected with both her many peers and contemporaries alike.

Over the years she has also sought to impart her extensive knowledge and wisdom to others looking to make progress within her field, speaking at numerous events and readings. She also continues to teach, leading to her becoming one of the most respected authors currently working within her field to date. Receiving a number of awards and nominations as well, she has gone on to gain the ‘Audie Award for Fiction’ award, along with the ‘Goodreads Choice Awards Best Historical Fiction’ award too. Maintaining a strong presence both online and off, this is something that she will continue writing and teaching for many years to come.

The Princess of Egypt

Published as a ‘Smashwords Edition’ imprint, this particular title was originally released on the 28th of November in 2012 to much acclaim. Not being a part of any series, it is a stand-alone historical novel, telling a story from a particular moment in time, this era focusing on ancient Egypt. Showing Dray’s remarkable ability for insight and entertainment, it really manages to engage the reader on a most basic and fundamental level.

Set within the court of Ptolemaic Egypt, this takes a look at the glittering court in all its glory, as it sees Princess Arsinoe coming-of-age there. Being abused by her ever ruthless sister, whilst also becoming a pawn for her father’s ever dynastic ambitions, life is difficult for her living there. That’s when she falls in love with a young man who has been forbidden to her, all the while dreaming of becoming the true queen of Egypt. Can she survive her family though? Will she be able to be with her one true love? Who is the real princess of Egypt?

Daughters of the Nile

This time brought out through the ‘Berkley’ publishing label, this particular story follows on from the previous titles in its series. Marking the third and final part of the ‘Cleopatra’s Daughter’ series, it works at continuing the historical themes, and the setting of the time. Showing further insight into the era, it really allows the reader to feel as if they actually there, whilst also empathizing with the characters on a very real level. Published on the 3rd of December in 2013, this would be provide the epic conclusion to the three part saga, wrapping everything up in a highly satisfying manner.

Looking to revive her dynasty once more, the young Cleopatra Selene has found sanctuary, whilst now ruling over the kingdom of Mauretania. Living with King Juba II, she aims to restore order to the kingdom once more, that is until Julius Ceaser seeks to have her children fostered into his own kingdom. Facing a barrage of external threats from the outside realms, Cleopatra is then forced to protect her dynasty and legacy, or see it be destroyed by those around her. Will she succeed? Can she save her family? What will become of the daughters of the Nile?
