Working across a whole range of different genres, he’s managed to make a name for himself as a versatile novelist gifted at building worlds. Showing a lot of scope and scale in his fiction, he creates compelling and suspense fuelled stories filled with tension and excitement. This has proven to be hugely successful for him over the years, as he’s established a large audience of readers from across the world.

Always willing to take on new and interesting ideas, Pearl has managed to adapt himself to a number of different genres and styles. Not one to be pinned down by any single style, he really understands the market and the reader, making the most out of each and every premise. Pushing his narratives to their full potential, he’s a compelling writer who really gets straight-to-the-point, knowing exactly what it is that he wants to say. Not just that, but he’s also written a number of short-stories as well, adapting to a variety of different styles and formats.

Creating strong characters too, he’s adept at crafting full three-dimensional personalities that really come to life off the page. Leaving a lasting impact on his readers, the characters and protagonists resonate in a manner quite unlike any other. While his stories are ever expansive, he always manages to make sure they stay down-to-earth and grounded for the reader. With a lot more to come in the future too, he’s not stopping any time soon, as his writing career continues onwards and upwards.

Early and Personal Life
Born in St. Catherines, Canada, Stephen B. Pearl would grow up with a strong love of both literature and language. Over the course of his life he’s undertaken a variety of different interests, looking at many subjects, from working as an instructor to an interest in science and history. Feeding his interests into his passion for writing, he’d continue to seek inspiration and ideas from the world around him.

It was his love of fantasy that really drove him though, immersing himself in ever expansive different worlds and universes. Honing and refining his craft, he’d go on to find his voice as an author, making his own distinctive impact upon the literary scene. Currently living in Ontario, he continues to write to this present day, he lives with his wife as he puts out books at a regular pace.

Writing Career
Starting out with his book ‘The Hollow Curse’ in 2009, Pearl would tackle a range of different ideas and philosophical concepts in his story. This would become a running theme in his work, as he’d go on to look at a whole range of different ideas throughout the course of his career. Following up his first novel with ‘Tinker’s Plague’ that same year in 2009, he’d fast go on to make a name for himself.

Over time he’d also make sure to include a lot of humor in his work too, making his books witty and entertaining in equal measure. Attending a number of different conventions too, he maintains an active presence in the literary community both online and off. There’s a lot more planned on the horizon too, as he definitely isn’t stopping any time soon, with a lot more material set for release yet.

Nukekubi
Originally coming out through the ‘Dark Dragon Publishing’ label, this would first get published on the 12t of March in 2012. Not a part of any overall series, this would be a stand-alone horror title with a completely self-contained narrative. It would also be some way into the writing career of Pearl, making it a must for any fans of the author looking for some of his peak work.

Based on the Japanese legend of Nukekubi, these are beings that appear as normal humans by day, but by night their heads detach, flying around looking for prey. Using this as the premise of the novel, Pearl updates it for a contemporary modern audience to chilling effect. Making the most of the concept, he really pushes it, creating a strong and terrifying horror story in the process.

Taking place in contemporary Toronto, this sees modern-day wizard Ray McAndrues dealing with the ancient threat of the Nukekubi. One is on the loose in the city and it’s feeding off everyday citizens, so Ray must deal with it, assisted by the sorceress Cathy, and Kunio and Toshiro the Japanese martial artists. Looking to deal with the beast, they must work together, finding it first and then neutralizing it before it’s too late. Can they ever hope to find it though? How is Ray himself connected to the monster? What will become of the Nukekubi?

The Hollow Curse
Initially released through the ‘Club Lighthouse Publishing’ label this time, this would come out in 2009 on the 28th of May. It would mark the first book in Stephen B. Pearl’s writing career, setting him up as a definite writer to watch in the following years to come. The book would also foreshadow a lot of what was to come in the future as, while it’s a stand-alone, it contains many key themes and ideas he’d return to as an author.

The way in which this story is handled is one of the most interesting aspects, along with the many characters seen throughout. Showing how each character goes on to become the next, it really manages to retain a strong arc for each being or ‘soul’ as it were. This is something that Stephen handles extremely well, knowing exactly what is needed and when, allowing the story to essentially speak for itself.

Dealing with a curse hounding them through lifetimes, Alysia and Ben have suffered many different reincarnations, as they attempt to overcome being soulmates cursed. Running throughout the ages and various lives, they are seen from the present day, while looking back into the past and the events throughout history. Dealing with their many experiences, they see several perspectives and a whole range of different characters coming into being. Will they ever get to finally and truly be together though? Where will their journey take them next? Can they ever overcome the hollow curse?
