Initially working for a telecommunications organization before he put pen to paper, Steve Robinson is an English man of letters. Robinson was born in Kent, in the UK. In 2005, the telecommunications company he was working for ended his formal employment hard on the heels of a godsend downsizing, prompting Robinson to start writing full-time and on a serious note. Incidentally, Robinson has been writing literary work since he was sixteen years old, wherein his teenage writing endeavors culminated in being published on a notable magazine.

The ancestry of Steve Robinson, who is an ardent fan of audiobooks especially the mystery niche, is an integral part in his books. He has always been fascinated by his maternal grandfather, who was a soldier during World War Two. It happened that his American grandfather, who was born in Arkansas and served in the US military whereby he enlisted at the advanced stage of the war, was posted in England. A romantic affair resulted in the birth of Robinson’s mother; however, his grandfather soon returned to the US, giving scant credence to the family back in England. Worse still, the old man never initiated communication until his death. Robinson would later on correspond with an American-based genealogist, in a bid to understand who his ancestor was. These aspects inspired a series with suchlike storylines.

Description of Two Early Books in a Series
Steve Robinson debuted in 2011. Robinson’s debut book is also the first one in his presently sole series, called Genealogical Crime Mystery. Currently, there are over fifteen editions of his debut novel. The first edition of the debut was originally published in 2011, titled In the Blood, and the said series is shelved under the mystery, historical fiction, crime, and thriller genres.

Another early book in the aforementioned series and authored by Steve Robinson is called To The Grave. This is the second book in the Genealogical Crime Mystery. There are about ten editions of this book wherein the first one was initially published in June 2012.

The featured protagonist in the Genealogical Crime Mystery series is called Jefferson Tayte. Meet protagonist Tayte. His place and date of birth are not known because he was an adoptee. Tayte, who is currently living in Washington, DC, is six feet two tall and overweight. He is not married and harbor no intention to marry. He is black-haired, unkempt, brown-eyed, and has a scar which resulted from being bitten by a dog. He hates air transport and avoids it as much as possible.

Just like the real-life occupation of author Steve Robinson and his ancestry too, protagonist Tayte’s profession is genealogy. Tayte, who is an American, doubles up as a detective. Tayte was inspired to be a genealogy by his adoptive parents, who informed him belatedly that he was merely an adoptee in their deathbeds and that his real mother dumped him, then a small boy, at a place run by Catholic missionaries.

The book titled In the Blood is largely set in Cornwall, England; the launching pad of the plot is a centuries-old incident. Two centuries previously, loyalist family members from America, which was then in a time of war whereby they were fighting for their independence, disappeared mysteriously en route to England via sea transport. Did something sinister happen to them? A husband somewhere decides that the answer would be a surprise birthday gift for his wife. And thus Jefferson Tayte is recruited to unravel the mystery. Tayte’s sleuthing eventually takes him to the personal effects of a plucky youthful woman wherein her diary entries unleash dramas in a quick succession.

The book titled To the Grave is most notably set in Leicestershire upon England which was by then embroiled in the Second World War. This book offers a fictionalized account of what transpired in novelist Steve Robinson’s real life whereby his maternal grandfather, then an American soldier dispatched to England, impregnated someone and went off to his home country, never to be heard from again. Hereby, a sexagenarian called Eliza Gray receives a red box from a mysterious sender, reportedly originating from her biological mother. Had she been an adoptee all along, contrary to her knowledge?

To answer her question, Gray recruits Jefferson Tayte to investigate her origin. But this is an uphill task for Tayte because like Gray, he too has never located his biological parents. In his sleuthing, Tayte consults elderly people who might be in the know-how and looks through an old cache of documents. Some potentially useful people drop dead before Tayte meets them. Are these loose ends and is someone angling for silencing them to prevent a secret from leaking? By and by, the story segues into the life of a teenage called Mena Lasseter during the tail-end of the Second World War.

Best Steve Robinson Books
In the Blood, To the Grave, and The Last Queen of England are the best books authored by Steve Robinson. Look at the previous section for a description of the first two books. The Last Queen of England, which was initially published in November 2012, is the third book in the Genealogical Crime Mystery series. Hereby, protagonist Jefferson Tayte is attending a convention in London where he has also paid a courtesy call to a friend. When the friend dies while conducting an investigation, Tayte alongside a professor of history dig into death, eventually associating it with a three-century-old conspiracy that may jeopardize British security apparatus and the kingdom.
