Sue Fineman is an American author from Washington State who has made a name for herself writing a series of popular suspense romance novels. Her novels may also be sub classified as light paranormal romances, and women’s fiction. She loves to create characters then put them in a situation in which they have to make their own decisions, essentially writing themselves, their character and aptitudes. Fineman likes to think of her characters as unique yet relatable characters that anyone would get to like or would like to know and root for at the end of each novel. She loves to refer to herself as a grumpy old lady from small town Washington that lives in Washington. She lives with her family composed of her husband who has been with for over four decades her three children, a grandson, multiple grand kittens, and grand puppies and two spoiled dogs. While her plots often get involved and in many instances twisted in the denouement, she never sets out to plan them that way.

In addition to being mother and wife, Sue has worn several hats including foster mother to half a dozen children, real estate agent technical writer, and secretary. She has lived in several states in the United States including Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Puerto Rico, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and Ohio. Right from her childhood, Sue was an avid writer though she never got to writing anything until she got into her fifties. She got into writing as a means of escape from her monotonous semi-retired life in Washington. She published her debut novel “The Mitchell Money” of the Martison Ranch series in 2011 and has ever looked back, going on to write over forty novels. Her books include the Martison Ranch, Gregory, Donatelli, Kane Family Ghosts, Winfield Killers, MacKendrick Wives, Ghosts of River Oaks series, and more than five freestanding novels.

Sue Fineman’s series romantic suspense such as the Martison Ranch and the Donatelli series are about a blue-collar family in small town America. Each novel in the Donatelli is typically about the life and relationships of a single member of the family. However, while each novel can be read as a stand-alone, they feature characters that have been raised under one roof with loving parents. Now that they are grown up, they are looking to find love and romance and it seems that they are all destined to meet heiresses. While seemingly unlikely, the circumstances of their lives put them in a great position to meet some of the richest women in the world. The women are in terrible marriages or romantic relationships, where they just realized that they are not being loved for who they are. The men of the Donatelli family come in to rescue the damsels in distress in their shining armor, offering them friendship and a sense of family which soon develops into a full-blown romance. What makes the men so intriguing is that they are never intimidated by the wealth and insist on treating them like regular persons, which makes them so desirable. Through their new relationships, they reclaim their lives get rid of their toxic relationships and circumstances so that they can have new relationships with the Donatelli men.

Sue Fineman’s novels are terrific romantic suspense stories that grab the attention right from the first page and never let go right to the very end. The combination of the damsel in distress though rich heroine and the warmhearted hero who has lived a life of adversity makes for an explosive mix. Easy and delightful reads that read like a Spencer and Hepburn movie, they tell the story of the growth of the heroines into confident young women that will do anything to get what belongs to them. The heroes are not the typical handsome and gorgeous hero but rather men with a warm heart that wants to help though they are not immune to the usual flaws of mere mortals. Written as novels with a happily ever after ending, they provide a beautiful perspective into the reality of love and relationships as it should be. Ultimately, while they are classified as romantic suspense, the novels assert that love, loyalty, and family will usually win in the end.

“Maxine” the first novel of the Donatelli series by Sue Fineman is a delightful novel that tells the story of Cara Andrews. Andrews is a newlywed woman who just overheard her husband tell his friend that he intended to have her institutionalized, so that he could get his hands on her money. Terrified of her husband, she sneaks off and goes to Gig Harbor a small town where she rents a run-down cabin to plan her next move. Things only get worse for Cara when her small cabin comes crumbling down during an earthquake. Luckily, the cabin was near to a warm-hearted neighbor known as Nick Donatelli who rushes in to help her out of the wreckage putting his own life in danger. Power is off, all roads are damaged, and the phones are out leaving Nick’s cabin on Puget Sound as the only viable place to wait for help. She soon finds that Nick is a friendly and warm man whose company she enjoys given that he is never uncomfortable even after learning that she is an heiress. He is but a laborer while she is one of the wealthiest women in the United States. She thinks she might be falling in love with Nick but knows that she is married to a ruthless man that would do anything in his power including kill to get her money.

“Blind Love” the second novel is a novel about Catherine Timmons a TV producer who is forced to go back home to take care of her aging father. Her father had fallen down and injured himself though reliable reports indicate that his bimbo had been responsible for the accident. To make matters worse, she had refused to take care of him or leave the house given that her father was quite moneyed. After Catherine evicts her, she gets Tony Donatellli to help remodel the mansion to accommodate her father’s new wheelchair. Even as she is a city woman, she soon finds that herself attracted to the bachelor who has made a name for himself chasing and flirting with women. However, he had recently had a frightening experience with a deranged woman leading him to swear off relationships until he met Catherine. He thinks he may be falling in love though she is sending him mixed signals by forcing him onto another woman on a program she is producing. He had always wanted to make it big in Hollywood but not at the expense of losing the only woman he had ever loved. However, the woman who had been with her father turns back and in an act of revenge goes after Tony.
