The American thriller author Susan Alice Bickford has been making a lot of headway within her literary career lately, having made a large impact with her debut release, leading to her quickly becoming a rising star within the world mystery fiction, definitely marking her as one to watch in the following years to come yet. Bringing out her first title, she is all set to follow this up, as she writes intelligent and taut thrillers that really capture the imagination of the reader, as she draws them in, ultimately allowing them to feel as if they’re really a part of the action. This is something she has come to perfect in recent years as, whilst she follows many of the more traditional conventions of the genre, she also really manages to mark her own territory, setting herself apart from the rest. She does this through well drawn characters who feel fully three-dimensional, along with worlds that really come alive off of the page, almost becoming a character in of themselves. Keeping the readers guessing constantly throughout, she is also no stranger to suspense either, giving her reader something to really invest themselves in. Continually turning to the next page, they’re kept on the edges of their seats, something which is not only reflected within her sales, but her critical acclaim too, as she has been receiving attention from far and wide. Resonating with a global audience, she has really managed to build herself a mass audience of readers who find something in her work, regardless of her background. This is something that has grown exponentially in a relatively short amount of time, allowing her to achieve a level of success that many of writers aspire to. Not creating long-running series as such, she opts to write more self-contained mystery novels, with short and concise narratives that get straight to the point immediately, as she puts forward a sense of both brevity and wit, something which she will definitely continue for a long time yet.

Early and Personal Life

Born in Boston Massachusetts, Susan Alice Bickford grew up with a strong passion for literature, along with a keen sense of creativity. Growing up in Central New York, this would originally take the form of an interest in computer graphics along with animation, a passion which saw her heading towards Silicon Valley. With a clear love of technology, she would then go on to become an executive at a leading technology company there, something which allowed her to pursue this love.

Still fascinated by everything that technology has to offer, both creatively and professionally, she continues to work as an independent consultant to this very day. Not only that, but she also continues to write regularly, something which will only steadily continue in the following years still to come. Moving between Silicon Valley and Vermont, she’s constantly on the lookout for new and exciting ideas with which she can use to inspire her next great novel.

Writing Career

Bringing out her first book in 2017, Susan Alice Bickford would make her literary debut with the novel ‘A Short Time to Die’. This would then later be followed up with the second title ‘Dread of Winter’, which would follow on in a similar vein, whilst also developing her style and her tone. Winning awards as well, such as the best debut from ‘Left Coast Crime’, with whom she has been a prominent figure of since, something that will carry on into the foreseeable future, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.

A Short Time to Die

Initially coming out through the ‘Kensington Publication Corporation’, Susan Alice Bickford made her big debut with this exciting first release in her literary career. First brought out on the 31st of January in 2017, it would mark the arrival of an exciting new writing talent, establishing her as a definite figure to watch in the following years to come. It would also provide an interesting and compelling story with a self contained mystery that would draw the reader in for the duration of the novel. With both the critics and the general public singing her praises off the back of this book, it’s a must for any fans of the thriller genre, as it uses the formula extremely well in an interesting and compelling manner.

Following many of the more traditional elements of the thriller genre, this really stands on its own two feet by making the most of it all, along with the characters and locations. Building two highly well realized leading protagonists here to solve the mystery, the readers are taken along for the ride alongside these two, as they’re put into the mindset of what they see. The location of California is also brought to life too, as Bickford really gives it a sense of vibrancy, essentially allowing the reader to feel as if they’re actually there.

Marly Shaw is walking home late one night, through the darkness, when she comes across the headlights of a pick-up truck which stops her dead in her tracks. A chase then ensues with her stepfather and another man, followed by gunshots, as she flees in fear, desperation and sheer terror. Moving ahead thirteen years, a community is found to be held in secrecy after human bones are discovered in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, with Sheriff Vanessa Alba and Jack Wong, her partner, on the case. How is it all connected? Can they find the truth behind all the lies? Who has a short time to die?

Dread of Winter

This being her second book, she aims here to follow up her first in a similar style to her debut, whilst also developing many of her ideas that came before. Set for release in 2018, she built upon the thriller template, giving it a lot more weight, taking it forwards, along with her numerous characters as well. Providing a self-contained mystery once again, it’s sure to keep readers upon the edges-of-their-seats for a second time around. It also shows how much she has developed as an author, giving her now fans something more to envelope themselves in, ensuring that she will have a legacy for a long time yet.
