Susan Hatler is a bestselling American contemporary romance and Chick Lit author with several successful series to her name. Her novels have been translated into Italian, German, French, and Spanish. Her series of novels include the “Better Date than Never,” “Treasured Dreams,” “Kissed by the Bay,” “Do Over Date,” and “The Wedding Whisperer.” She had a normal upbringing with two parents and two siblings and asserts that she always loved telling stories from childhood. In elementary school, she was fascinated with unicorns and in high school had several teen fiction she was writing all at once. Hatler did all the usual boys, bars and the occasional studying while in college. She graduated with a BA in Philosophy minoring in Political Science from California State University Hayward. She would then take on several jobs in the insurance and legal fields but gradually began gravitating towards a writing career.

Hatler asserts that she could have written at birth if she had that ability since she always has a ton of stories marinating in her head. She writes about quirky characters having zany experiences with her characters constantly having dialogues in her head. Susan believes that her characters have something to say and she is just a conduit through which they communicate. She got into writing by reading since she was always a voracious reader. Since she read a lot of books, stories began popping into her head and she would write them down in her journal. While Hatler does write teen fiction she asserts that she loves to write whatever calls to her. This perhaps explains why she wrote a lot of teen fiction as she says that she loves the topic of discovering oneself and exploring options that lends itself to young adult fiction. Susan has also said that she loves to write for the variety, emotion and drive it provokes in her life. Writing allows her to research and be immersed in a lot of different things, which means that she never gets bored. It also provides her with an emotional outlet as she goes along and experiences what her characters go through when writing. When she is not writing she loves to read and cites the likes of Beverly Cleary’s “The Luckiest Girl,” Meg Cabot’s “Size 12 is Not Fat” and Lisa McMann’s “The Wake Trilogy,” and Stephenie Meyer’s “The Twilight” series as some of her favorite. Hatler also loves to travel, go for walks, play with pups and ski whenever there is snow. She also watches Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sex & the City on DVD.

Susan Hatler writes emotional and humorous shirt reads in her “Better Date than Never” series. The short novels are all about the unpredictability of love and how one can find love at the most unexpected times and places. In “Love at First Date,” she tells the story of a woman named Ellen who just turned thirty and has signed up to a dating service online. She needs to find someone compatible and what better way than to filter them online. But then her friend needs her to take care of her four-month-old pup and she has to take it to the vet. Things take a turn and she may just have found love at the vet’s office. “Truth or Date” is a well-written story with a lot of humor. The lead in the novel is Gina that had written off relationships after she was given the run around by a man she had dated for a decade. Now that Ellen is getting married, Gina needs to find a date for the wedding and what unfolds is a hilarious novel full of hot moments as she gets to know her date, the mysterious Chris. “My Last Blind Date” is the story of Rachel who has once again been set up on a blind date by Ellen her friend. Ever since she found love and happiness, she has been relentless and even conniving in trying to set up her friends. Rachel hates blind dates but they are preferable to Sex and the City reruns.

“Love at First Date” is a beautiful narrative of Ellen a woman that has never believed in storybook love only for it to threaten to rewrite her life. She had learned that compatibility is what mattered if one wanted to find the right guy. She had signed up for an online dating website based in Sacramento named “Detailed Dating.” The website typically asks the men the questions which are then compared with those of the women to find the most compatible match. Ellen has gone through and written tons of email responses until she had narrowed it down to two prospective men. When her best friend asks that she look after her dog as a favor she agrees and soon finds herself at the local vet. She meets a man that she cannot stop thinking about. He is not the most logical choice but she cannot help but pay for dog obedience classes just that she can be near to him. Ellen knows that going for prescreened guys is best but she cannot think anymore when her heart tells her to give Henry a chance.

Gina the lead of “Truth or Date” is a woman stuck in a relationship that does not look like it is going anywhere. She has decided that she is going to end her relationship and find someone who values family and marriage. She does not know what type of woman Chris wants or even what he wants in life. Gina is used to playing truth or dare, which she had found was great at driving one to do things they never thought they could do. Chris is changing jobs and she needs to plan a moving away party and so she plays a truth or dare game with him. He decides to ask her to be his pretend girlfriend and this brings out a lot of laughs from her. She is torn between Chris with whom she has a fire and Ethan her blind date who does not light off any sparks though he wants family and marriage. Chris the playboy is with a different woman almost every week but she just cannot get away from him. Gina does not know if she should take the safe route of going with her head or go with her heart and take the bad boy. She decides that she is not taking either of them to the wedding only for both of them to give her a huge surprise.

“My Last Blind Date” is the story of Rachel who has not yet gotten over the fact that her boyfriend was cheating on her with her hairdresser. Her best friend Ellen has been trying to set her up with a new man for several months and she is not going to let up any time soon. She has so far set her up on three blind dates that never went anywhere. But with Valentine’s Day coming up, she has set up another blind date and Rachel cringes as does not think anything will come of it. She does not think it is worth dating anymore and prefers to live with her dog which is now her surrogate boyfriend. But that was before Noah her new co-worker came into the picture. The man is so hot but she is not ready to tell anyone that she may be falling for the man. She had a heart to heart with him but she still does not know if he was giving friendly advice or flirting. She finally agrees to a last date with another stranger that Ellen was setting her up with. But she is going to get a very good surprise when she gets to the meeting spot.

Depends on the book/series but many appear to be ebook only.
