Susan Kearney is a science fiction, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and romance author from Tampa. Once upon a time, before she decided to start writing hot romances and become a bestselling author, she used to set herself on fire four times a day. Susan has written more than 60 works of fiction which is not surprising given that she has always had a passion for reading and writing right from when she was a child. Her secret for churning out bestseller has always been “write what you know” which has ensured that she has never run out of plots and characters. The former owner of three hair salons, professional diver, real estate broker, owner of fitness salon, barter business, sailor, martial arts expert, and real estate broker has gathered enough experience to write for a lifetime. The New Jersey native is now a full-time author that has worked with top publishing houses including Kensington, Grand Central, Red Sage, Tor, Leisure, Simon & Schuster, Berkley, and Harlequin. She has been most influenced by Nora Roberts who she says she looks up to for her straight highly successful and prolific career in the paranormal, romance, suspense, mystery romance, and science fiction.
As a young teen, Susan went to the University of Michigan from where she graduated with a Business Degree. Once she was done with her studies, she spent much of her time diving some of the best pools in the state. She started diving as a ten-year-old and was a New Jersey State Champion by the time she was a twelve-year-old and an all-American Diver by the time she went to college. While she had a lot of businesses and held a variety of jobs, she always wanted to be an author, and as a college student had started writing a novel though she never finished it. It was only when she read “Warrior’s Woman” by Johanna Lindsey and loved it that he thought she needed to finish her manuscript. “The Challenge” which was the 38th novel she ever published was the first work of fiction she ever wrote. She no longer works as a lifeguard as she spends most of her days penning Harlequin Intrigue romances. Susan Kierney published “Lullaby Deception” the first novel of the “Braddock Brothers” series in 1997 and never looked back since. She now has more than sixty novels in the “Braddock Brothers,” “Sutton Babies,” “Hide and Seek,” “Crown Affaire,” “Heroes, Inc.,” “Rystani,” “Pendragon Legacy,” and “Braddacks” series alongside several single standing novels. While she has held a variety of jobs over the years, she has said that the one she loved most was mother and wife. She got married to her teenage sweetheart and together with their two children and Boston Terrier, the family lives in Florida. When she is not writing or reading romances, she can be found diving into cold waters, traveling, figure skating, boating, or screenwriting.
Kearney’s “The Challenge” is the story of Tessa Camen, a Secret Service agent that had been injured while protecting the President. The agent wakes up to find herself in the arms of a handsome man named Kahn. The man tells her what she thinks is an outlandish narrative about how she traveled through time and space to save the world. He also asserts that there is a Challenge offered and that she is the best person suited to take it. She is skeptical at first until Kahn provides evidence that she cannot refute. It seems that she has been chosen and taken forward in time to be the savior of the world by winning an interstellar contest. Kahn is the only man with the skills and wherewithal to train her even though he has just a few weeks to train her in the paranormal skills he insists she has always had. He is confident that an ancient technique of using sexual frustration will unearth her supernatural powers though Tess does not believe in his techniques. What she is intending to use are her martial arts techniques, which have gotten her through some tricky situations though she has often had problems with controlling her emotions. But the good thing is that Kahn is a master at persuasion.
“The Dare” by Susan Kearney opens to Dora desperate to make love to Zical, the handsome Rystani warrior. But she is a sentient computer and hence she does not feel true desire, taste or touch. Since she cannot feel any of that, she makes use of advanced technologies from the future to manufacture a body that will appeal to her target and then downloads her consciousness into it. However, she is a sassy woman that Zical finds very different from those of the women he is used to. While he is very much attracted to the woman, he does not want to have sex with her. She likes being funny and smart as she thinks that is what Zical wants though she can adapt to what he wants at any time. When her lover unintentionally summons ancient sentient computers that have protected the world from invasion form millennia, Dora is charged with intercepting them and ensuring they are back where they belong. Fortunately, Dora’s mission puts her in close proximity with her love interest where she gets to learn all about human emotion. Over time he comes to love the man and no longer only wants to make love to him but also wants to earn his love and make him hers.
Susan Kearney’s “The Ultimatum” tells the story of Alara an alien who needs to have a man to have sex with or else she will die. Without sex, her cells will rupture slowly over time and she will die. Women of her race need to have sex just to live and she has always seen it as some kind of fix that she determined to fix. The good thing is that she is a genius doctor expert at fixing issues with DNA. Nonetheless, she never planned for getting kidnapped by Xander, a Rystani Warrior. He is her enemy but she needs to give in to her sexual desires because if she does not, she will waste away and die. In return for helping her, Xander asks that she help in finding an antidote to a virus that has been devastating his galaxy. But then what she thought was just physical starts feeling like love even though her needs have already been met. She thinks it would be something impossible given his career would make her nothing but a crutch. But if only she could learn to trust in love maybe they could overcome their problems.
